It is unreasonable to say, "That which is born is produced by that which is also born." Here it is said that the Blessed One, by teaching dependent origination with statements such as "This being, that arises; this being born, that is born," eliminates those who assert causelessness and those who assert that which is incompatible as a cause, thereby revealing the true nature of things. But when you, with "The born, the unborn, and the being-born, in no way do they arise," negate birth, you negate dependent origination. Therefore, it is sufficient to debate with you who assert that all is nonexistent. If you say, "I am not one who destroys dependent origination, but you are the one who destroys dependent origination," when the Blessed One said, "This being, that arises," it was clearly shown that things are without inherent existence. Whatever is dependently originated is inherently peaceful. Whatever arises dependent on mere causes and conditions is, like illusion and so forth, the nature of the pacification of proliferation. When we say that the effect called sprout arises from the cause called seed, and that both of these show the pacification of the proliferation of dependent origination, then dependent origination becomes clear. But you, by asserting that things have inherent existence, have harmed dependent origination, because inherent existence does not depend on others, and therefore cannot be dependent origination. Therefore, being-born and birth are also peaceful. Because dependent origination is the pacification of proliferation, therefore being-born and birth are also the pacification of proliferation. If you say that relying on the birth of a pot, the pot becomes being-born, and that being-born is also produced by birth, that is also unreasonable. If an unborn thing, something, were to exist anywhere, then that thing which will be born, if it does not exist, what will be born? If, prior to birth, an unborn thing called pot existed anywhere, then that which will be born relying on the action of birth, if that future thing of the pot does not exist at all, then relying on what action of birth will it be born?

Third, revealing other ways of refutation: If the arising thing is the cause of the arising thing, then the arising thing is like arising, by whom is it arisen? If the arising thing does not arise the thing that is arising, then by which other arising thing should this arising thing be said to arise? If it is arisen by another arising thing, then there will be no end. This reason has already been said. If there is arising without arising, then everything will arise in this way. If the arising thing arises without another arising, then all things that are arisen by arising will also arise without arising, just like arising. Second, combining what has been said with remembrance: Furthermore, regarding the view that "arising arises from itself and others," we do not need to say refutation now, however, refuting this view, temporarily "existence or non-existence is also the same, arising is not reasonable, existence and non-existence are also not," this is exactly what was revealed above. How is it? For the meaning of existence or non-existence, "the cause is not suitable," and "when the dharma is existent, non-existence and existence-non-existence are not established," etc., when arising is prevented, the thought that arising arises the thing that is arising, and that arising arises the nature of itself and others will not arise. Furthermore, when examining this arising, one will think of things as either decaying or not decaying. Neither is reasonable, because "for the nature of things that are decaying, arising is not reasonable." "Anything that is not decaying, that is not a reasonable thing." The present thing related to impermanence, which is decaying, for it, arising is not reasonable, because it exists. The past and future things, anything that is separated from decay, which is not decaying, that is not a reasonable thing, because it does not possess the characteristics of things, therefore, arising is not reasonable. Second, preventing abiding: Here it is said that the arising of things exists, because it exists, therefore the dharma of existent things exists. For things that do not arise, there is no abiding, therefore, because arising exists, so abiding exists. Abiding is also a nominal expression, not a real one, because things abide and do not abide, things do not
