When discriminative wisdom accompanied by mindfulness naturally dissolves and vanishes like a rainbow in the sky, and when no characteristics of knower and known are visible, at that time, the suchness that is free from all elaborations becomes manifest like the center of the sky. Therefore, it is labeled as true wisdom. However, in reality, this suchness is the suchness that transcends the realm of knowable and expressible. As it is said, in the "Sutra Requested by Light-Protector": "Light-Protector, for example, fire arises from two pieces of wood rubbing against each other by the wind, and that fire burns the wood. Similarly, if there are individual discriminations about phenomena, then the power of the wisdom of the noble ones arises. That wisdom burns the discriminations." Also, in the "Entering the Middle Way": "When the unborn is that itself, and the mind is also free from arising, at that time, relying on those, it is said that one knows that by that." And in the "Essence of the Middle Way": "'Dharma' refers to the past, future, present, the inexpressible, and the unconditioned—these five aspects. Because these five aspects that are shown do not establish self-nature in any way, therefore, for any object, the non-discriminating mind, and without an object of focus, also does not arise. This very ultimate truth, which does not rely on others, is non-discriminating, peaceful, without characteristics, not a different entity, without arising and ceasing, without things, without fabrication, inexpressible, and without equal. Knowing this is what is called all-knowing." "Since all phenomena lack inherent existence, where there is no discrimination, the mind also does not arise; that itself is unequaled; knowing that is what is said by the Buddha." Also, in the "Two Truths": "When the five consciousnesses engage with the five objects such as form, and one does not see self-nature, at that time, no signs arise, therefore it is said to abide." Also, in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way": "When the knower and the known do not abide before the mind, at that time, there is no other, the third aggregate of being neither two nor not two, without the hook of focusing, one becomes completely peaceful." As it is said. Therefore, the suchness that I have spoken of

This way of understanding is that the great chariot masters of the Madhyamaka school, who possess the unerring oral instructions of the noble father and sons (Nāgārjuna and Āryadeva) regarding the intention of the Sugata, unanimously agree. Therefore, it is good for those who wish themselves well not to slander, even if they do not have faith. As stated before, the discriminating wisdom that takes illusory appearances as its object is not a valid cognition that is truly infallible, because it is an object of conventional truth, like mistaking a mirage for water. Although it is not truly valid, it is not contradictory to act as an antidote to the view of clinging to extremes, because they are different in nature. For example, someone mistakes a rope for a snake and becomes frightened. When it is shown that it is not a snake but a coiled vine, the illusion of the snake disappears. If someone asks, 'If they are the same in being non-valid, why can't they be used as something to be abandoned and an antidote?' This very meaning is found in the Sutra of the Tathāgatagarbha. First, an example is given of someone who is afflicted by an unreal poison being relieved. Then, the Bhagavan said: 'O Light Protector, similarly, to those childish ordinary beings who are afflicted by afflictions, I teach the Dharma in a way that is not true.' The question is asked: 'Bhagavan, do you not speak the truth? How can the Tathagata speak what is not true?' The Bhagavan said: 'O Light Protector, what do you think? Are you liberated by the truth or by what is not true?' The answer is: 'I am liberated by what is not true, not by the truth.' Why is that? Bhagavan, what is called untrue is desire, hatred, and ignorance. Bhagavan, if desire were true, then even with ugliness, one would not be separated from desire. Bhagavan, if hatred were true, then even with love, one would not be separated from hatred. Bhagavan, if ignorance were true, then even with dependent origination, one would not be separated from ignorance. Bhagavan, it is because desire, hatred, and ignorance are not true that one becomes separated from them by cultivating ugliness, love, and dependent origination.'
