Okay. World Honored One, all afflictions are not truly real. Through complete understanding, they will be completely abandoned. World Honored One, if afflictions can be truly abandoned by some means, then both of these are not truly real, because they are not true. Non-true afflictions will be separated by non-true knowledge through complete understanding, as it is said, the non-true that should be abandoned can be abandoned by the non-true antidote. The antidote that eradicates is the wisdom of the noble ones. This is merely manifestation and suppression, and for this, merely formal opposition is sufficient, which has already been shown through examples. Mentioning it in passing is sufficient. Second, in order to widely refute the opposing aspects of non-arising, there are twenty-three debates. First, in examining conditions, it is divided into refuting the cause arising from other things, and refuting that the result is the nature of the cause. The first part, stating the previous view, and then refuting it. The first point is: their own sects say: things do not arise from self, both, or without cause. If it is reasonable to say this, then it is not reasonable to say that it does not arise from others. Because the World Honored One has clearly pointed out in the sutras and shastras that only those conditions that have become other are the factors that produce things. For example: There are four conditions, namely, the causal condition, the objective condition, the immediately preceding condition, and the dominant condition. The fifth condition does not exist. The causal condition, the objective condition, the immediately preceding condition, and the dominant condition are also conditions like the cause. Therefore, the conditions that produce things are these four. The conditions that some sects believe to be previously existing and later arising are also included in these four. Other sects believe that the cause of things, such as Ishvara, is not a condition, so the fifth condition does not exist. Therefore, saying that it does not arise from others is harmed by one's own commitment. The second part is divided into: generally refuting the four conditions, separately refuting their respective definitions, and examining whether the result exists in the conditions and refuting it. The first part is further divided into: refuting arising from conditions, refuting arising from action, and the path of refutation.

There are three types of wrong explanations. The first is: The four conditions mentioned in the Abhidharma are just a common saying in the world, not the ultimate truth. You, however, consider the cause and the effect as real entities. This is not reasonable because it will be refuted by the reasoning that will be explained. Moreover, if it were in accordance with reason, the Buddha would not have said so. Therefore, things are not produced from other causes and conditions. For example: The nature of things is not in the conditions, etc. If the entity of the self does not exist, then other things will not exist either. If the entity of the fruit, such as sprouts, does not exist in the state of the entity of the self, such as the eye faculty, that is, the state of the cause such as moisture, then the statement that other things are produced from causes does not hold. For example, the fruit, the entity of the eye faculty, etc., relies on the cause, such as moisture, etc., to be called other things. But the entity of the self, such as the fruit, the eye faculty, etc., does not exist in the state of the cause, such as moisture, etc. Because of this, what does the cause, such as moisture, etc., rely on to become other things such as the eye faculty? It will not change. Therefore, there is no other thing in the cause, and it will not be produced by other things. The nature of things, that is, the nature of the cause such as seeds, does not exist in the state where it has not changed. If it exists, then it does not depend on them, which would lead to the sprout arising without a cause. Therefore, if there is no entity of the self of the sprout in the state of the seed, then the seed will not exist as an entity other than the sprout. Just like Maitreya and Ajita, only things that exist simultaneously will depend on each other and become other things. But seeds and sprouts do not exist at the same time. Therefore, since it cannot be said to be other things, it is unreasonable to say that it is produced from other things. The second is: If the causes such as the eye faculty and form are not directly producing consciousness, but rather facilitating the action of producing consciousness, and the action related to the cause produces consciousness. Then, the action related to the cause does not exist. If the action exists, then it is related to the cause, so it will produce consciousness.
