Even if done now, it is useless, because for any consciousness that has arisen, has not arisen, or is arising, there should be no action. Like this, there is no action for what has already arisen, because what has already arisen cannot arise again. For what has not arisen, there is also no action of arising, because it is unreasonable to say that what has not arisen arises. It is also not correct for what is arising, because there is no arising other than what has arisen and what has not arisen. Therefore, because action does not possess conditions, it cannot arise from that. If it is said that it arises from action that does not possess conditions, this is unreasonable, because without conditions there is no action. When action does not possess conditions, there is also no action that does not possess conditions, because action depends on conditions, so it will become without cause. Thirdly, if there is no action like this, then the conditions themselves will become the producers of things? Without action, there is no condition. When there is no action, the condition that is not associated with action is also not a condition, because only what is associated with the action of producing the fruit is called a condition. If only the condition associated with action is the producer, then, "Associated with action, or not?", this statement also applies here. "Or not?" is a definite meaning, meaning that, according to the reason stated above, when there is no action, the condition associated with action does not exist, or not, that is the meaning. Therefore, the condition associated with action is not the producer. If there is a need for detailed analysis of whether the condition is associated with action or not? Because relying on the conditions of the eyes, etc., consciousness, etc., arise, so the eyes, etc., are conditions, and consciousness, etc., arise from them. Because they arise relying on these, these are called conditions. As long as it does not arise, until then, how are these not conditions? If it is said that consciousness arises relying on the eyes, etc., so the eyes, etc., are its conditions, then as long as the fruit consciousness does not arise, until then, how are the eyes, etc., not its conditions? It will become not a condition, because the condition depends on the production of the fruit.

It is for the purpose of adding the word "of." Just as oil cannot be extracted from sand, it is unreasonable for something to arise from non-causal conditions. Furthermore, if one considers the eyes, etc., to be the conditions for consciousness, is one considering them to be existent or non-existent? Neither case is reasonable. Regarding the case of non-existence or existence, a condition is not reasonable. If it is non-existent, what would it be a condition for? If it is existent, what would a condition do? Regarding the case of the fruit of consciousness, etc., being non-existent or existent, the eyes, etc., are not reasonable as the condition for producing it. If the fruit is non-existent, what would it be a condition for? Because a non-existent thing cannot be produced by a condition, like a rabbit's horn. If the fruit is existent, what would a condition do? Because it has already obtained birth. Like a sprout that has already arisen. Secondly, there are four refutations of the individual definitions. First, the refutation of the definition of the causal condition: In the Abhidharma, it is said, "That which accomplishes is the cause," meaning that which produces something by means of something, existing in the nature of a seed, that is said to be the definition of a causal condition. If it is said that because there is a definition, there is also a causal condition, then that definition is also conventional, not ultimately true, like this: When a dharma exists, non-existence and existence are not established, how can it be called an accomplishing cause? If that is the case, it is unreasonable. If some dharmas arise from a cause, and it is considered that what accomplishes is a causal condition, although it seems reasonable, it is not established. When a dharma exists, it is not established, because it is already established. Non-existence is also not established, because it cannot be accomplished. Both existence and non-existence are not established, because they are mutually contradictory, and it would be a fault of asserting both sides. Thus, if no dharma is established, how can it be said that what accomplishes the fruit is a causal condition? Therefore, if it is said that because there is a definition, there is a causal condition, that is unreasonable. Secondly, the refutation of the objective condition: Here, what are the dharmas that possess an object? The sutra says, "They are all minds and mental factors." Just as an old man rises by leaning on a cane, the minds and mental factors that are arising, arising by relying on objects such as form, those are their objective conditions. If this is considered, it is also not ultimately true.
