That which is called (karma) is that which, not depending on the activities of body and speech, but in order to attain the ultimate through mind, is the mind that accompanies the consciousness of mind, and initiates all virtuous and non-virtuous actions, is considered to be the karma of mind. That which is called the karma of thought is considered to be the karma of body and speech because it exists in body and speech and attains the ultimate through them. That which is done after thinking in the mind that one should act in such and such a way through body and speech is called the karma of thought. In this way, the karmas of body, speech, and mind become three. Secondly, the distinctions of these karmas are fully proclaimed in various ways. The distinctions of these three karmas are fully proclaimed in various ways by the Bhagavan. How are they proclaimed? Speech and action and non-abandonment, non-revealing form, abandonment of non-revealing form, others also acknowledge it in the same way. The merit arising from enjoyment and, the manner of non-merit, those four, mind and dharma, those seven, are considered to be manifest karma. The revealing form of speech that initiates non-virtuous and virtuous non-revealing form, similarly, the action of initiating non-virtuous and virtuous non-revealing form, that is, the revealing form of the body, from now on I will live by killing sentient beings and stealing, from the time of vowing to commit sinful deeds, even when not doing these things, there is always a continuous generation of non-virtuous non-revealing form, that is, non-abandonment, that is, the non-revealing form of non-revealing form, and from now on I will abandon killing and so on, from the time of vowing, even in the later circumstances of intoxication and so on, there will be a generation of virtuous non-revealing form, that is, abandonment, that is, the non-revealing form of the nature of discipline, and building temples for the sake of the Sangha, providing lodging and food there, and so on, how the Sangha enjoys those, how merit will increase in the continuum of the author, arising from enjoyment

and non-manifestative karma of merit. Wherever sentient beings, in order to build meritorious temples, etc., slaughter sentient beings like butchering animals, the more they kill, the more non-merit will arise in the continuum of the doer; this is the non-manifestative karma of non-merit arising from enjoyment. The mind, which is the nature of mental karma, the mind that manifestly constructs, the mind and the seven dharmas, are considered to be of the nature of karma. Among them, the first six are karma of thought, and the latter are all karma of mind. Why is it called 'manifestative'? Because it makes one's own motivating mind known, it is called 'manifestative.' Why is it called 'non-manifestative'? Because although it is the nature of form and action, it cannot, like manifestative karma, make one's own motivating mind known to others, therefore it is called 'non-manifestative.' Second, refuting disputes. It is divided into raising the dispute and giving the answer. The first part is: To this, some object: Regarding the many kinds of karma that have been explained, do these karmas maintain their own nature until the time of maturation? Or do they not maintain it because they perish immediately after arising? If they remain until the time of maturation, then the karma becomes permanent. If it ceases, since it has ceased, how can it produce a result? If karma remains in its own nature from arising to maturation, then during that time, the karma becomes permanent, because it is separate from destruction. If you say that it is not permanent because it will perish later, that is also not correct, because what was previously separate from destruction, like space, is also unrelated to destruction later. If you admit that it perishes immediately after arising, since it has perished, how can it produce a result, since it does not exist? It certainly cannot. Second, giving the answer to this, divided into refuting the unreasonable aspects and establishing the reasonable aspects. The first part is refuting the previous view: To this, some schools answer: For the moment, we will not have the fault of karma being permanent, because it perishes immediately after arising. If it ceases, since it has ceased, how can it produce a result? Such a reproach
