Undistracted one-pointedness of mind is the nature of Śamatha. Therefore, Dhyana is the Samadhi of Śamatha and Vipaśyanā combined. As it is said in the Sgrub Le: "Dhyana is also the wisdom of discrimination and observation, joy and agitation, one-pointedness of mind." The meaning of the word is: Because it is the Samadhi of Śamatha and Vipaśyanā combined, it is Dhyana. The ultimate extent is: During the time of night yoga, seeing many Tathāgata bodies adorned with marks and signs in the center of the Bindu, and hearing the indestructible sound of those bodies; during the time of day yoga, seeing a black line as thin as a hair radiating light in the center of the Bindu at the time channel. As it is said in the Ye shes le'u: "In the center of it (the time channel), the Buddha's body, inseparable from objects, many Sambhogakāya. Like the cloudless sky, the yogi should look with wide eyes. A black line, radiating immaculate light, until the time channel appears." The benefits are: At that time, the yogi will obtain five kinds of Abhijñā, that is, all the gross and subtle forms dwelling in the realms of gods and humans, as clear as seeing an Āmalaka fruit placed in the palm of the hand, this is the divine eye; hearing all the gross and subtle sounds as if they were resounding in the ear, this is the divine ear; knowing the thoughts of others as they are, this is knowing the minds of others; remembering many past lives of oneself and others as clearly as if they were three days ago, this is remembering past lives; seeing the Bardo existence of the five kinds of beings entering from the previous life to the next, this is knowing death and birth. These five kinds of Abhijñā will be obtained. As it is said in the Sgrub Le: "The five kinds of Abhijñā will be obtained, the lord of men, purified by the practice of Dhyana." Why are the two Dhyanas of gathering and focusing called the Vajra Yoga of the Body? Because they are the yoga that accomplishes the image of emptiness of all kinds, and at the time of the path, by the power of practicing these, at the time of the result, one can accomplish all kinds of supreme adorned with marks and signs.

Having the ability to accomplish the appearance of the form body as if projecting an image onto a mirror, therefore, these are called the Vajra Yoga of the Body. The second general topic is the Vajra Yoga of Speech, which has two aspects: the Vajra Yoga of the Cause and the Vajra Yoga of the Result. Among these, the Vajra Yoga of Speech's cause is life-force exertion (prāṇāyāma). The time for practice is after perfecting meditation, and when practicing the union of calm abiding and insight, one can effortlessly introduce the life-force into the central channel through life-force exertion. Otherwise, if one forcibly introduces the life-force into the central channel, it will become an obstacle. Therefore, the necessity of life-force exertion is stated in the Second Examination: "By the blazing fierce fire at the navel, the five Tathāgatas are burned, the eyes and so forth are also burned, by burning, the hare-marked one (ཨཾ,梵文天城体:हं,梵文罗马音:haṃ,literal meaning: Haṃ) drips." As it is said, after the knots of the central channel from the navel to the crown are loosened, the fire of the fierce fire residing at the navel melts the (ཨཾ,梵文天城体:हं,梵文罗马音:haṃ,literal meaning: Haṃ) at the crown, in order to cause the bodhicitta to descend. Therefore, one practices life-force exertion. Among these, the state of the central channel is: in the center of the body, from the crown to the jewel, the central channel is straight like the trunk of a water tree, thin like a lotus thread, red like a safflower, and dwells clearly like a sesame oil lamp, so other scholars say. When the central channel dwells in that way, the two channels of ro and rkyang coil around it fifteen times from the crown to the secret place, like an iron chain wrapped around, as this tantra says. In the Chapter on Wisdom, it says: "The channel bound in a spiral, reaching the place of nāda, bindu, part, and wisdom nectar." That is what is said. The junction where the two channels of ro and rkyang coil around the central channel is called the knot of the central channel, and there are fifteen such knots, from the crown to the eyebrow center, from there to the throat, from there to the heart center, from there to the navel, and from there to the secret place, with the two channels of ro and rkyang coiling around the central channel three times each. In ordinary times, when one breathes 21,600 times in a day and night, one out of fifty-six and a fraction enters the central channel, but it is weak, and the wind mostly flows through the left and right channels.
