All who are born will eventually die. All who are born and exist in this world now will surely die, so I too will die quickly. Thinking that nothing is needed, what is there to do? And that those older than oneself and (574) younger companions, neighbors, and all the people of the kingdom will die and disappear. What is there to do in this life? It is meaningless. Meditate in the depths of your heart, thinking, 'I will practice a pure Dharma.' Visualize on the lotus and moon seat on your crown the Lama Dorje Chang Amitabha, with a red body, the right hand holding a lotus, and the left holding a bell adorned with a handle, crossed at the heart, blazing with the light of blessings, and think, 'You know, you understand.' Pray to the precious Lama, 'Please let me abandon self-grasping. Please let unnecessary things arise in my continuum. Please let me master dreams.' Having prayed in this way, dissolve the Lama into yourself. Your own innate bliss becomes as before. (575) From the crown of the head, a white drop the size of a bean arises. It passes through the central channel and reaches the heart. From the secret place, a red drop arises and reaches the heart. There, the two drops rotate to the right with a 'khra kho ro ba' (sound of rotation) speed, and focus the mind on this. Think, 'This is a dream, an illusion.' Finally, visualize the two merging into one, rotating, becoming thinner and thinner, and finally dissolving on their own, and rest in non-grasping. During the day, also meditate continuously without interruption. Especially at the moment of waking up at dawn, pray intensely to the Lama and meditate on this, taking small naps. When you wake up again, induce sleep a little as before. By doing this repeatedly (576), you will master dreams. Then, think that your own dwelling and all your friends are dreams, illusions. Thinking, 'I am asleep, whatever dreams I practice,' with this mindset, take your body to the top of a castle and deliberately throw it off the cliff, visualizing the body disappearing into the sky. Think, 'This is a dream.' Again, think, 'This appearance is the appearance of a dream. This body is a mind-body. Whatever is practiced in dreams and mind-bodies is not truly established.' Thinking in this way, practice passing the body through walls and mountains, etc. Again, think, 'This appearance is in a dream. However the dream develops, however it transforms.'

Thinking, "This is a dream," (577) whether it is one's own dwelling or whatever object appears in front, multiply it from one to ten, from ten to a hundred, and so on, and meditate that this is a dream. Similarly, to subdue mice, transform yourself into a cat; to subdue birds, into a hawk; to subdue dogs, into a wolf; a wolf into a tiger; a tiger into a lion; to subdue humans, mentally transform and multiply into rakshasas, etc., chasing them away, or doing things like devouring them, and think that this is a dream. Similarly, to subdue nagas, transform into garudas; to subdue kings, into Hayagriva; to subdue naga-demons and naga-spirits, into Avalokiteshvara Simhanada; for rakshasas and yakshas, etc., mentally transform yourself into Vajrapani, etc., and multiplying, cut their bodies (578) into pieces with weapons and punish them, thinking that they offer their life-mantras. Meditate that all those who are subdued and those who subdue are mental appearances, a play of dreams. These practices of purification and multiplication should be done without interruption during session practices on a single seat, and also in all situations of walking, sitting, eating, and drinking, always keeping mindfulness in check and meditating repeatedly. When you realize you are dreaming during sleep, a beginner should not immediately engage in the efforts of purification and multiplication, but rather think: Ah! This is a dream, all phenomena are the same as this. Since appearances in dreams are not truly established, experiencing pleasure and pain and attachment is one's own delusion. If you can maintain this state without falling into waking distraction and confusion (579), then clearly visualize the form of the yidam deity you are practicing, and check whether the face and hands of the deity are clear. If you can meditate on yourself as the deity in a dream, it plants the seed for attaining the deity's form in the bardo, so it is said that this has great benefits. If you can frequently and repeatedly realize that you are dreaming and become somewhat stable, then Niguma says in the Illusionary Path Stages: "Realizing the deity's form in a dream, if it arises for even a moment, there is no doubt that you will attain the bardo body." Therefore, in dreams, one should also practice the meditation, purification, and multiplication of female deities, etc., and also, when you realize you are dreaming, how to properly and truly observe external appearances. After waking up from a dream, there is no difference (580) between the previous dream appearances and the waking appearances. Both are the appearances of one's own mind, which is the same. Dream appearances are delusions caused by the habitual tendencies disturbed by sleep.
