There are two types of entering: entering and the spontaneous appearance of deities in dreams. The first is the two intermediate practices. The latter is transforming the various deities (450) and appearances into non-attachment to emptiness. If you understand it this way, then some who consider themselves wise say that although there are many instructions on the six dharmas of Guru Yoga dream practice, the key points are few. Those frivolous statements will be understood as irrelevant and accidental words. Of all the instructions on the beginning and end of these six dharmas, it is only the first practitioner who benefits the most, and it is only the immediate manifestation of signs. And to say that there is no benefit to the first practitioner, and to regard profound statements as instructions, that is absolutely not the case. Also, there is no good explanation based on scriptures self-created by fools. There is also no practice based on oral instructions, and it is definitely different from empty talk and nonsense, so be sure to understand this. Fourth, in the instruction on the self-liberation of luminosity and ignorance, there are three instructions: preliminary, main, and subsequent. First, there are four: the root is impermanence and renunciation, the branch is conduct and samaya substances, the leaf is skillful means and self-luminous radiance, (451) and the supplication is the manifestation of flowers. First, the root is impermanence and renunciation, because you are sure that you will die, you are not sure when you will die, and all of samsara in the six realms and three realms is suffering, so you must strongly meditate on the thought of meaninglessness. If you have not cultivated the instruction of impermanence before, then there is no need to mention it. Those who have cultivated it must also cultivate the instruction of impermanence again at this time. In general, by cultivating the encouragement of the Dharma, death, impermanence, and renunciation, a clear and sharp awareness will arise. This will strengthen the power, and even in sleep, a clear awareness will arise. This will also make it easier to grasp the luminosity. Also, those who have renunciation, because their awareness has been whipped and stimulated, it is easy to have remembrance even in deep sleep. For example, if you are worried that your awareness will be dull during the day, you will sleep less at night. Like this, the wisdom dakini also said: (452) Death is born in the continuum, luminosity arises. Second, the branch is conduct and samaya substances. Regarding conduct, as it is said: Conduct is slow and food is oily, activities that produce dust should be avoided. Like a sick person, you must do the things you need to do slowly. Food should be oily, that is, eat more food that is good for the body.

It was shown appropriately. Jumping, running, competing in skills, fighting, and drawing bows, etc., which cause disturbances in the pulse and breath, and actions that produce dust should be avoided. Regarding the substances of commitment, generally, a feast and torma should be well prepared and offered. Offer tormas to the five classes of dakinis. Also offer tormas to the Swift-Acting Wisdom Protector and pray. When offering the torma, it is said to burn gugul incense and mahamamsa incense. Third, the petal—the spontaneous manifestation of the path of skillful means: If one is accustomed to the yoga of tummo, then practicing the regular yoga is sufficient (453), and nothing else is needed. Otherwise, one should first practice gentle vase breathing for about a month. When meditating on the actual object of clear light, one should also practice a session of breath control in the morning or afternoon, whichever is convenient, just enough not to become fatigued. Through the yoga of breath, one separates the essence and impurities of the body. Since clear light arises from the radiance of the essence, meditating on the channels and breath is crucial. Generally, clear light is one of the Six Dharmas, and since it is mainly taught during the time of the clear light of sleep, tummo and clear light are enumerated separately. Otherwise, tummo is the supreme method for generating the clear light of daytime. It is more powerful than holding drops, subsequent destruction, sudden awakening, and subtle lines and sudden occurrences. Fourth, prayer—manifesting flowers: As it is said, "What causes clear light to arise is devotion to the guru." (454) Therefore, devotion to the guru is very important for the arising of clear light. Now, if devotion to the guru is important for all meditations, why is it said to be important only for clear light? Generally, although it is necessary for everyone to have the auspicious connection of devotion to the guru, virtuous activities during the day can be practiced through one's own effort. Moreover, in the state of dreaming, there are various appearances of the dream itself and coarse thoughts of memory and conception. Because of this, the imprints of the day are carried into the dream. Since there is also something that can be attained through one's own effort and intention, it is not solely dependent on blessings. During deep sleep, because there is no mental effort, this clear light of sleep, unless it arises naturally at that very moment, cannot be meditated upon otherwise.
