Remember and remain in that state. Investigate in this way. Furthermore, investigate where does the mind of the cutter come from? Where does it go? Where does it reside? After observing, if the mind is turbulent, observe its nature, and without distraction, restrain awareness. Without (689) thinking about anything, abide single-pointedly, and remain equally in that state. If, even after doing that, thoughts still arise, remember them, and immediately and completely cut off all arising thoughts and abide. In those moments, let all arising experiences arise naturally. If, even after doing that, it is still uncontrollable and scattered, remember it, trace the thought, observe where it scatters to, and thereby clearly discern the weaknesses of the thought, cutting it off like cutting meat. If you meditate without distraction in that way, there is no doubt that the experience of clarity and emptiness without grasping will arise. In that way, starting from the steps of the preliminary instructions, recognize the thief. Its sign is that the actions of body and speech are not stolen. Its increase is the combination of the deity image with the winds, etc., which should be understood according to the stages of the Great Seal wind combination (690). Here, I will briefly explain a method of wind retention that is closely needed: Properly adjust the posture of the body. Keep the winds in a state of equal flow. Then, first blow out the wind of wind, blue. Then blow out the fire wind, red. Then blow out the water wind, white. Then blow out the earth wind, yellow. Then visualize the space wind, colorless, going out from all the pores of the hair, and exhale. Then, first slowly draw in the earth wind from the nostrils, draw in the lower wind, focus on the navel, and hold it yellow. If you cannot bear it, exhale slowly. After that, draw the water wind into the heart and hold it as before. Then draw the fire wind into the throat and hold it as before. Then draw the wind of wind into the crown of the head and hold it as before. Then draw the space wind from all the pores of the hair and hold it so that it pervades the entire body. Alternatively, (691) you can also combine and hold the earth wind and fire wind, the water wind and the wind of wind. Second, the main part has two aspects: First, the four faults are naturally liberated: The true nature of the mind itself is inseparable from emptiness, but due to the fault of being too close and not being seen, it wanders in samsara.

Just like one's own face. Just as a clear mirror, when it encounters clear causes, even the reflection can see itself, so too, when a pure lama encounters the mirror of pith instructions, if one practices accordingly, one can see the nature of the mind. Although Mahamudra naturally arises, it cannot be symbolized by examples, and because it is too profound, it cannot be recognized. Whenever it is placed in its natural state, it arises, but because it is too easy, one does not believe it, and thus one is separated from non-distraction. Although the three kayas naturally arise, because they are too excellent, they cannot be contained in the mind, and therefore certainty does not arise, and thus one wanders in samsara due to the fault of lacking decisiveness. Now, abandon these four faults, rely on the lama's pith instructions, recognize self-arising, generate certainty, and cultivate with decisiveness and non-distraction. Second, the ultimate four kayas naturally arise: At the time when Mahamudra, which is free from all mental fabrications of subject and object, naturally arises, that which arises in various forms is the Nirmanakaya naturally arising. For that, the non-conceptual, free from grasping at clarity, is the Dharmakaya naturally arising. Clarity and non-conceptuality arising blissfully is the Sambhogakaya naturally arising. The nature of these three is inseparable, therefore it is the ultimate Great Bliss Kaya naturally arising. What is the aspect of non-conceptuality in that? The absence of grasping, the appearance of various knowable objects, is the all-knowing wisdom. These two are inseparable, the Dharmadhatu wisdom is inseparable. The way to bring these to fruition is: All phenomena are empty and selfless, but beings grasp at "I" and "mine," thinking how pitiful those who wander in samsara are, generating compassion, praying with devotion and longing, and then, without caring about any of those, cutting them off decisively. The measure of a stable foundation is: There is not even a particle to meditate on, not even a moment to be distracted, and day and night, all activities remain completely in the state of non-conceptuality. In short, the conclusion is: In the state of inseparability of emptiness and compassion, destroying the poison of attachment to the object and subject of dedication, knowing that there is no need to dedicate merit to the Dharmadhatu, may all virtues be dedicated to the omniscient Buddha! Thus, reciting pure dedications and aspirations is a supreme pith instruction. From the Dharma category of the essential branch, this concise practice of Mahamudra Ga'uma, a pith instruction on view, was also written by Lung (694) Tong Nyönpa, combining his own experience, at the sacred site of Glorious Lotus Mountain.
