As the clear light of dying fades, a slight breeze stirs, and the appearances of near-attainment arise, obscuring the clear light. Immediately following this, appearances dawn, and consciousness, along with the mount of wind, exits from any of the nine orifices. The moment body and consciousness separate, one is instantly born as the mental body of the bardo (Tibetan: བར་དོ།, meaning: intermediate state). This is the actual basis of existence in the sipa bardo (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ་བར་དོ།, meaning: bardo of becoming), and the six signs of the bardo, etc., occur. One experiences unpleasantness and cannot remain because awareness is without support. Only the appearance of the dawning of the twilight of the dark light bardo (Tibetan: སྣང་མུན་འོད་ཀྱི་བར་དོ།, meaning: intermediate state of light and darkness) arises. The activities of dying are similar to before, and in the bardo, one should arise as an illusory deity form and aspire to manifest the enjoyment body. One should recognize the three appearances of dying and remain evenly in the clear light as much as possible. As the three appearances of reversal dawn, the bardo body arises as an illusory deity form. By repeatedly entering and leaving that continuum, gradually the actual clear light is manifested, and from that, one arises as a pure illusory body, which is the attainment of the sambhogakaya in the bardo. Third, in the final connecting bardo (Tibetan: ཐ་མ་ཉིང་མཚམས་སྦྱོར་བའི་བར་དོ།, meaning: final connecting bardo), establishing the force of aspiration prayers. This is taught from 'the energy of the five poisons, the five fears, the power of the three poisons and karma' up to 'obtaining the nirmanakaya'. As explained above, in that bardo body, due to the self-appearance of sinful thoughts and habitual patterns, terrifying illusions such as the four frightening sounds and the three dreadful precipices arise, causing unspeakable fear. Due to the power of karma, one travels to all the places of the six realms, including the four continents, becoming extremely tired and weary. Executioners such as the karmic Yama chase and harm one wherever one goes. The energy of the five afflictions leads one near the paths of the five destinies. The lifespan is seven days, and if one does not take rebirth in that time, one experiences a minor death like a slight faint, and then is born again in the bardo for seven days to take rebirth. If one does not find the causes and conditions for rebirth there, one takes rebirth as before within forty-nine days. From the interdependence of the five winds moving and the five poisons gathering, the five paths of pure light, the six realms, good and bad wombs, and the appearances of the four modes of birth dawn. At the time of entering rebirth, if it is a miraculous birth, one craves a place; if it is a moisture birth, one clings to smells and tastes; if it is a womb birth or an egg birth, one clings to the sexual union of parents. In particular, if one is born as a god, the place of birth appears as a precious celestial mansion, and one sees gods and goddesses and develops desire; if one is born as an asura, one clings to pleasant forests and asura males and females. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If one is born from a human into a superior body, it is like a lake adorned with male and female horses. In Jambudvipa (the continent where humans reside), if men and women act like cattle, it is like cattle in a lake adorned with male and female cattle. If the sound is unpleasant, it is like geese in a lake adorned with male and female geese. If one is born into the lower realms, various terrifying illusions will appear, and one will seek refuge. For animals, they will see burrows and caves; for pretas (hungry ghosts), they will see tents and rags; for hell beings, they will see iron houses, etc., and they will flee there for refuge, thus taking birth. The circumstances at the time of death are similar to the above. In order to go to a pure land, or to become a vidyadhara (knowledge holder), or to be born as such parents, one should repeatedly pray: 'May I attain Buddhahood!' Then, in the bardo (intermediate state), when illusions appear, one should arise in the mandala of the yidam deity, merge into the clear light, and abide in equanimity. When one sees the place of birth, and arises with attachment and aversion, or seeks refuge, one should visualize these as the mandala of the guru parents or yidam parents, receive empowerment, etc. 'Oh, I have done this before, and so I have wandered in samsara (cyclic existence). If I do it again now, I will also wander in samsara.' Thinking this, one should prevent it. If one prevents it in the first week, it will be easier later. Then, visualizing a pure land such as Sukhavati (the Pure Land of Amitabha), one should strongly generate the aspiration to be born there. By transferring consciousness through the transference of consciousness instructions, one will be born there without doubt, like shooting a pellet or turning a wheel, it is said. If one wishes to be born as a person who is able to practice mantra and benefit sentient beings, one should transform the bardo consciousness into (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese Meaning: 吽), like shooting a shooting star. Visualizing entering from the mouth of the parents or yidam parents to whom one has previously made aspirations, one will definitely take birth, and in that basis, one will encounter this profound Dharma, and by practicing it, one will attain the result. This is called taking birth at will, and attaining Buddhahood as a nirmanakaya (emanation body). This is the instruction for transforming actions and conduct into tsok (gathering or feast). The fifth root is, transforming all actions and conduct into tsok. First is clearing obstacles on the path in general. Transforming actions and conduct into tsok is divided into two parts: clearing obstacles on the general path; transforming actions and conduct into tsok. The first part is: 'Clearing general obstacles to the instructions, recognizing the maras (demons).' This means that obstacles mostly arise from incorrect body posture, incorrect breath control, and incorrect focus. Therefore, do not merely listen to the instructions that are spoken, but diligently put the words and meanings into practice, so that all the key points of practice are integrated into experience. Furthermore, the main cause of obstacles is the control of the three poisons.
