As explained before, it is necessary to hold the ground of non-duality without abandoning it. What is that? For example, generating the mind of enlightenment (Bodhicitta) and practicing compassion. Then, what is the mind of enlightenment? It is the wisdom that aims at perfect and complete enlightenment for the sake of others. Its object is the perfect enlightenment as the real object, and the purpose is to benefit others. Such generation of mind, from the perspective of its essence, is divided into aspiration and engagement. The Bodhicitta of a Bodhisattva, whether it is accompanied by a companion in learning the path, is also divided into two types. This is like the difference between wanting to go on the road and being on the road. As Gyalsay Zhiwa (རྒྱལ་སྲས་ཞི་བལྟས།, Prince Shantideva) said: 'The mind of enlightenment can be summarized into two types, namely the aspiring mind of enlightenment and the engaging mind of enlightenment. Just as one understands the difference between wanting to go and going, the wise should understand the difference between these two in sequence.' Furthermore, from the perspective of subtlety and grossness, it is divided into two types: ultimate and conventional. The former exists from the Mahayana path of seeing to the Buddha-ground, and the latter exists from the Mahayana path of accumulation to the Buddha-ground. From the perspective of classification, there are five types obtained through companions, power, cause, lineage, increase of merit, extensive learning, and the power of hearing, thinking, and meditating. From the perspective of the stages of the path, there are four types: the stage of faith, the stage of pure intention, the stage of maturation, and the stage of abandoning obscurations. From the perspective of mind training, there are minds like those of a king, a shepherd, and a poisonous substance. From the perspective of philosophical schools, there are two types: Madhyamaka and Chittamatra. From the perspective of what is to be taken, there are the person who takes, the way of taking, the remedy for falling back, and the difference in the number of fundamental downfalls. From the perspective of examples, there are two types, such as the earth, etc.' This is a summary verse. The boundaries of the generation of mind, that is, the twenty-two mentioned above. The first three are encompassed by the lower, middle, and upper stages of the Mahayana path of accumulation. The one after that is encompassed by the path of preparation for entering the first ground. The ten after that are encompassed by the ten grounds, such as the Joyful Ground, and are the objects of the path of seeing and the path of meditation. The one after that is encompassed by the special path. The three after that, from the perspective of the Vajra-like Samadhi of the path of preparation, the main practice of fundamental meditation, and the subsequent attainment of the conclusion, are encompassed by the Buddha-ground of perfect and complete enlightenment. Thus, the Bodhisattva who generates the supreme mind of enlightenment should also diligently practice compassion. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This must be done. In the Sutra of Gathering the True Dharma, the noble Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara said to the Bhagavan: 'Bhagavan, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas should not study too many dharmas. Bhagavan, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva thoroughly grasps and understands one dharma, Bhagavan, all the Buddha's dharmas are in the palm of his hand.' What is that one dharma? It is great compassion.' What is that compassion? It has three aspects: Knowing samsara to be of the nature of suffering, and meditating on compassion focusing on the suffering of sentient beings, this is compassion focused on sentient beings. Realizing that delusion is endless and its root is severed, and meditating on compassion focusing on the nature of delusion in the minds of sentient beings who do not realize this, this is compassion focused on dharma. When the wisdom of non-duality arises, without grasping at self and other, and the radiance of realization, inseparable and unmingled, dawns as compassion, this is compassion without focus. How should one meditate on it? Because all sentient beings suffer, one should meditate on compassion. If one cannot meditate on a vast scale at the beginning, one should first think of one's parents, thinking that they have provided me with countless necessities and have shown me immeasurable kindness. Especially from the time my mother carried me in her womb until I grew up, they have shown me immeasurable kindness. Therefore, I must find a way to liberate them from the ocean of samsara and lead them to the shore of great bliss. Then, praying 'Lama, Konchok, Khyenno (Guru, Three Jewels, know),' starting with one's parents, one should recite: 'May all sentient beings, as vast as the sky, be liberated from samsara and attain Buddhahood.' Meditate until definitive understanding arises. Then, gradually expand the scope and meditate on friends, enemies, and all sentient beings in turn. Then, again, meditate on compassion, thinking that these sentient beings fear encountering unpleasant things, fear being separated from pleasant things, and are tormented only by meaningless suffering. Then, again, meditate on compassion, thinking that all dharmas are empty by nature, but due to ignorance, they grasp them as real, and due to the power of this grasping at reality, they wander in the three realms. As it says in the Ornament of the Sutras: 'Happiness and suffering arise from causes, Bodhi...' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
