The Collection of Teachings by Omniscient Pema Garpo, PK111: 'A Commentary on the Quintessential Instructions: Clearly Illuminating the Meaning of the Great Vehicle' A Commentary on the Quintessential Instructions: Clearly Illuminating the Meaning of the Great Vehicle The Vajra Words Teaching on the Utterly Pure Body A Commentary on the Quintessential Instructions: Clearly Illuminating the Meaning of the Great Vehicle The Commentary on the Quintessential Oral Instructions: Clearly Illuminating the Meaning of the Great Vehicle To the glorious and holy Lama and Vajrayogini, inseparable, the master of all families, I prostrate with devotion! Whoever has abandoned all obscurations and realized the equality like space, which is difficult to comprehend; Liberated from all existence and non-existence, the co-emergent nature pervading space. Not one, not many, perfectly endowed, the source of benefit and happiness, the Vajra Holder of space. May the Dharmakaya of the Buddhas be victorious in every way! The lord of victors, whose precious teachings are the source of jewels. The princes, gods, and kings, with their wisdom like Mount Meru, churned from it. Having found the nectar of instructions that quickly attains the state of the supreme victor. For the pleasure of the victorious ones, I will impartially bestow this upon beings here. Here, the lords of the victorious ones have taught the precious collections of teachings, each according to their own capacity and inclination. Having gathered the subjects to be expressed, and explained them in vajra words, this is a detailed explanation. However, the structure of the necessity and connection is not elaborated, but the meaning of the expression is explained as 'The Vajra Words Teaching on the Utterly Pure Body'. The detailed explanation of the branches shows and distinguishes it. First: Son! Cut off the root of delusion and rest in the state of unborn. Practice equality in the appearance, train in unobstructedness, do not give in to attachment and aversion, and seize the stronghold of non-duality. Abandon the mind of grasping and clinging, and rely on unwavering mindfulness. Son! If you do so, you will never be separated from the natural radiance. That is the first part. The method of the Sutra tradition is to cut off the additions from the outside based on reasoning and scriptures. Secondly, the method of the Sutra tradition is to cut off the additions from the outside based on reasoning and scriptures. Relying on an impure Lama, cutting off the additions from within is the method of mantra. First, explain the object to be abandoned, and then explain the antidote to abandon it. The object to be abandoned: First, 'the root of delusion' means delusion that has turned away from the true state of affairs. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

这里指的是烦恼障(nyon mongs pa)和所知障(shes bya'i sgrib pa)。

The root (rtsa ba) refers to: Due to not realizing the true nature, ignorance (ma rig pa) arises, which means not understanding that all dharmas are naturally pure, clinging to the apparent signs, and presuming oneself to be knowledgeable. As the protector Nagarjuna (Klu sgrub) said: 'Whatever correctly understands the things born from causes and conditions, the teacher calls it ignorance.' This refers to the afflictive obscurations (nyon mongs pa) and the cognitive obscurations (shes bya'i sgrib pa). Among the afflictive obscurations, there are the afflictive obscurations that generate samsara and the afflictive obscurations that bind one to samsara. The former is merely ignorance, and the latter are attachment (chags) and aversion (sdang). Cognitive obscurations are also divided into habitual (bag la nyal) and manifest (mngon gyur) cognitive obscurations. The former refers to non-conceptual, bewildered, and inexpressible wisdom; the latter refers to the wisdom that clings to what is not that as that. In the two divisions of the root, some scriptures speak of ignorance that is ignorant of cause and effect and ignorance that is ignorant of suchness; some scriptures speak of darkness with defilements and darkness without defilements; and some scriptures divide what is to be abandoned into what is abandoned by seeing and what is abandoned by meditation. In short, because ignorance gives rise to self-grasping (bdag 'dzin), from self-grasping arises the grasping of self and other, and from the grasping of self and other arises all that should be abandoned, therefore it is called the root. As the Lord of Knowledge (rig pa'i dbang phyug) Glorious Dharmakirti (dpal ldan chos kyi grags pas) said: 'If there is a self, then one knows there is an other, and one will have attachment and aversion to the division of self and other.' And also: 'This ignorance clings to that, from which arise hatred and so on. Therefore, the cause of all faults is said to be delusion.' The antidote to it is: with the wisdom that realizes selflessness, to explain in detail the profound view of emptiness (stong nyid). Secondly, the antidote to it is: with the wisdom that realizes selflessness, to explain in detail the profound view of emptiness; and through training the mind in suffering as bodhicitta (byang sems), to explain in detail the vast conduct of compassion (snying rje). The first is: 'Cutting through in the nature of unborn,' which means that all that should be abandoned, such as ignorance, self-grasping, and the objects of birth, are refuted by reasoning, thereby establishing them as selflessness, non-existent in truth, unborn, without essence, without characteristics, without inherent existence, and of the nature of being free from all elaboration. As the great master's treatise on valid cognition, the Commentary on Valid Cognition (rnam 'grel), says: 'Without refuting its object, it is not possible to abandon it.' Therefore, by subduing with the reasoning that refutes the object of the arising of self-grasping, the apprehended does not exist. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
