The result is that there is no difference between the Mantrayana and Paramita Mahayana, and the meaning is the same. As Jetsun Milarepa said: 'The difference within the secret mantra lies only in the method. I will not say that the view is better, therefore the method is superior.' The view is to see things as they are, and to take that as the result. Although the view is such, in the method and conduct of establishing it, compared to the direct teachings of Paramita, the direct teachings of Vajrayana are superior in four aspects: with a body that fully grasps the two truths, it completely cuts off the meaning of material things, and is not confused because of rejoicing in the supreme fruit of great bliss. As it is said in the Three Lamps: 'The wise, possessing great compassion, study and take the best method, despise the methods of ordinary people, and thus attain the state of non-regression.' The second superiority is: knowing the thoughts and habitual tendencies of all sentient beings, and speaking extensively in the form of the four tantras according to their capacities, therefore there are many methods. As it is said therein: 'In order to perfectly accomplish the benefit of all sentient beings, for the great intelligent ones, all the methods, in the form of four divisions, are spoken by the guide of beings.' The third superiority is: for any sentient being who desires to manifest, it is certain to be applied to that one, and to place them in the state of Buddhahood, therefore there is no difficulty, that is, to make bliss the path. As it is said therein: 'Whatever one desires, wherever one desires, in whatever way one desires, it is certain to be applied to that one, and to accomplish the desired meaning, this supreme meaning is spoken by the Thubpa (Buddha).' The fourth superiority is: whatever others do that would lead to lower realms, being skilled in the non-inverted method, being able to transform it into the cause of Buddhahood, that is the sharp faculty, spoken for the purpose of guiding the trainable beings. Furthermore, Jetsun Maitripa said: 'The Madhyamaka that is not adorned with the words of the Lama is only mediocre.' Its meaning is that, for these three superiorities, the Panditas think that, although there is no difference in the ultimate meaning, Paramita establishes it through scripture and reasoning, therefore it is confused through understanding; the Mantrika directly understands it through scripture, reasoning, and the oral instructions of the Lama, therefore it is not confused. Paramita has no experience and takes abandonment as the path, therefore it is difficult; the Mantrika takes great bliss as the path, therefore there is no difficulty. Paramita takes the cause as the path, while the Mantrika takes the result as the path, that is the difference. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thus it was said. As for the path of Paramita (Perfection, going to the other shore), it is merely a stepping stone to enter the Mantra-yana (Vehicle of Mantra). A Bodhisattva (Enlightenment Being) who enters this path, even if he attains his own noble path, depends on the path of Mantra, let alone attaining Buddhahood? The view of glorious Naropa is what translator Marpa said in person: 'Regarding the Paramita Vehicle and the Secret Mantra Vehicle, the difference between the two is that one saves through bliss and the other saves through speed.' That is to say, the Paramita Vehicle uses the feeling of suffering as the path, while Mantra uses bliss as the path.' This is the first meaning. The Paramita Vehicle was taught to tame those without desire; and for those with desire, since they cannot be tamed by the path of non-desire, it is necessary to teach Secret Mantra, so that the enjoyment of desire is transformed into the path, which is the root of the special excellence here. As the Gurukula Tantra says: 'The world born of desire, if separated from desire, will be destroyed. If one fully knows the Vajra desire, the mind will be transformed into Vajrasattva (Diamond Being). Bound by the noose of desire, it is said that the world is intoxicated by desire. The Bodhi (Enlightenment) free from desire is despised by those who possess the best of desires.' Also, as the Guhyasamaja Tantra (Tantra of Secret Assembly) says: 'If one relies on asceticism and vows without end, one will not be able to achieve it. If one enjoys all desires, relying on it, one will quickly achieve it.' The meaning of saving quickly is that the great translator said: 'In the Paramita Vehicle, it is believed that it takes three countless eons to attain Buddhahood, but here (in the Mantra Vehicle), one can attain Buddhahood in one lifetime.' That is to say, although attaining Buddhahood is quick in the Paramita Vehicle, one must wait for three countless eons. In this Vajra Vehicle, it is said that one will not be delayed for more than this lifetime or, at most, sixteen lives. Perhaps some may think that in the Paramita Vehicle, if one obtains great forbearance towards the unborn Dharma, then one can attain Buddhahood in seven days, so it is not necessarily three countless eons. But in reality, the one who obtains great forbearance is an eighth-ground Bodhisattva (Eighth Bhumi Bodhisattva), and this also requires two countless eons to achieve. Moreover, this kind of Buddhahood is not ultimate Buddhahood, but a statement aimed at those who are immersed in the extreme of cessation, so it is called Buddha, but in reality, no one is immersed in that state, because all Buddhas arise from cessation. Furthermore, the Sarvarahasya-tantra-tika (Commentary on the All Secrets Tantra) says: 'Anyone who attains Buddhahood through the yoga of the cause is... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
