About contemplating impurity: Because nothing is pure and there is no eternal self-nature, clinging to purity and permanence, as well as attachment to self, are merely the result of being deceived by one's own illusions in the past. Even the Vajra body of the Buddha will decay, so why wouldn't my worthless body perish? One should think: 'If the bodies of the Buddhas, adorned with excellent marks and signs, even the Vajra body is impermanent, then what need is there to mention other sentient beings who are like bubbles and pithless trees?' Third, contemplating the law of cause and effect: Actions done with virtuous intention through body, speech, and mind are purely virtuous deeds; actions done with non-virtuous intention through body, speech, and mind are purely non-virtuous deeds; if one of the three doors of body, speech, and mind is virtuous and another is non-virtuous, then it is a mixed deed. The first brings purely happy results, the second brings purely painful results, and the third brings a mixture of happiness and suffering. Among them, the powerful ones will manifest in this life, which is called 'experiencing the law in this life'; those that manifest in the next life are 'experiencing in the next life'; those that mature after many lifetimes are 'experiencing after many times'. Therefore, the karma that one has created and accumulated will only mature on one's own aggregates. Therefore, even small sins should be abandoned, and even small roots of virtue should be cultivated. Just as a small poison can kill a great person, and a small medicine can cure a great disease. All the happiness, suffering, good, and bad of sentient beings do not follow their wishes, but follow their karma. Atisha said: 'No matter how much you think, you cannot hit the mark completely, everything is accomplished by karma, relaxing your mind will bring happiness.' Another scripture says: 'Karma follows like a shadow, most of life is wasted on sinful deeds, the destination in the next life is only the evil realms.' The 'Hundred Karmas' says: 'The karmas created by sentient beings will not disappear even after hundreds of kalpas, once the conditions are ripe, they will surely manifest their results.' 'The result of doing good is great happiness, the result of doing harm is suffering.' 'Do no evil, practice all good, subdue your mind, this is the teaching of all Buddhas.' Fourth, contemplating the faults of samsara: In the 'Satipatthana Sutta' it says: 'Sentient beings in hell are burned by the fires of hell, hungry ghosts are tormented by hunger and thirst.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Animals devour each other, humans decline due to short lives, and gods decline due to negligence.' Thus it is said. Sentient beings in hell suffer as Yamaraja, born from karma, repeatedly strikes and boils them with terrifying weapons, repeatedly boils them. After drawing a black line, sawing along it is the Black Line Hell. Iron mountains, resembling sheep heads, collide with each other, which is the Crushing Hell. A burning iron skewer pierces the body from the crown of the head to the soles of the feet, causing wailing, which is the Wailing Hell. Piercing the body with a three-pronged burning iron skewer causes great wailing, which is the Great Wailing Hell. The body is burned by chains of fire, which is the Hot Hell. Boiling in boiling bile is the Extremely Hot Hell. The body is burned, and iron nails are hammered in without gaps, and the tongue is plowed with five hundred plows, etc., suffering intense torment, which is the Uninterrupted Hell. In terms of duration: the Repeated Boiling Hell, etc., are sequentially equal to the lifespan and days and nights of the desire realm gods. Therefore, the lifespans of these hell beings are equal to the lifespans of the desire realm gods. Half of the Extremely Hot Hell and the Uninterrupted Hell last for a middle kalpa.' Thus it is said. Furthermore, there is sinking into bottomless rivers, forests of sword-leaf trees, thorny thickets, roads filled with razors, uninterrupted walking, swallowing burning iron balls, drinking bile, sitting on burning ground, being overturned and fleeing, fainting, and various forms such as birthmarks, suffering hundreds and thousands of kinds of pain. Cold Hells: Blister Hell, Bursting Blister Hell, Achu Hell, Kyihu Hell, Sotamtam Hell, cracking like a blue lotus Hell, cracking like a lotus Hell, cracking like a great lotus Hell, experiencing unbearable extreme cold pain, and being struck and cut by fierce Yamarajas wielding sharp swords, etc. As stated in the 'Letter to a Friend': 'Like a jar of sesame seeds, taking one seed out every hundred years until it is exhausted, that is the lifespan of the Blister Hell, and the lifespans of the other hells are twenty times that.' Thus it is said. Furthermore, there are eighteen hells including the Peripheral Hells. Pretas (Hungry Ghosts): bodies burning, empty insides, spines like mountains, unable to move, mouths as thin as needle eyes, hair coarse and standing on end, some touched by burning stumps, some like brooms, etc., with various forms. They cannot even hear the names of food and drink, they can only eat vomit, food turns into bile and burns the body, etc. As stated in the 'Letter to a Friend': Pretas (Hungry Ghosts)... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
