The only refuge is the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha), which also includes the Dharma and Sangha. For the defilements of the mind, the Buddhas do not scold, they have compassion for sentient beings. The reason for protection is that, like a mother loves a naughty child. How to protect? May I be liberated from the ocean of samsara. All the perfect Buddhas, whether they have lived, passed away, or will appear in the future, I will follow them to learn and practice the path of Bodhi. May I perfect the six paramitas and liberate all sentient beings in the six realms of samsara. The ritual of generating the special Bodhicitta is the main practice. The non-special Bodhicitta is also recorded in the scriptures of the Shravakas, but it is not recorded here, so the Holy Nagarjuna said: 'In the scriptures of the Shravakas, there is no mention of dedication.' Know this. It is wrong to think that their scriptures do not mention dedication. 'A wise person, at the moment of generating the supreme Bodhicitta, can restrain himself from doing boundless evil deeds.' Therefore, generating Bodhicitta itself becomes the Bodhisattva vow. Generating Bodhicitta must also be perfected through complete practice. The practice of cultivation includes: the wisdom of realizing emptiness and the compassion of holding on to the conventional. Second, the practice of cultivation includes: the wisdom of realizing emptiness and the compassion of holding on to the conventional. First, the wisdom of realizing emptiness requires first cultivating Shamatha (calm abiding), and then cultivating Vipassana (insight) on the basis of Shamatha. First is Shamatha: May I manifest the six superknowledges and attain unsurpassed Bodhi. To this, Atisha said: 'Through the nature of merit and wisdom, completely accumulating the collections, this is the reason for all Buddhas to manifest superknowledges.' Just as a bird with incomplete wings cannot fly in the sky, without the power of superknowledges, one cannot benefit sentient beings. The merit accumulated day and night by those who possess superknowledges cannot be obtained by those who do not possess superknowledges even in hundreds of lifetimes. Superknowledges also come from the samadhi of achieving Shamatha, therefore, without achieving Shamatha, superknowledges will not be achieved. Therefore, in order to achieve Shamatha, one must make repeated efforts. Similarly, after the accumulation of merit is complete, the wise person's mind is firm, and virtuous dharmas such as faith take root and sprout in the heart. After countless eons of practice, in order to achieve the accumulation of wisdom, one must listen to the teachings of superknowledges. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Entering the realm of practice.' Thus it is said. Secondly, regarding the actual nature of wisdom, there are two parts, explaining it from the perspective of its function. The first part, in the 'Compendium,' states: 'Wisdom completely understands the nature of all phenomena, thereby completely transcending the three realms.' This refers to the unborn and the unarising. Wisdom is established from the perspective of thoroughly distinguishing phenomena. If we differentiate, there are three types of wisdom: that arising from hearing, that arising from thinking, and that arising from meditation. Relying on the wisdom arising from hearing, analyzing through the wisdom arising from thinking, and abiding in this, one can attain the wisdom arising from meditation. The first (wisdom arising from hearing) arises from relying on a virtuous spiritual friend and listening to the sacred Dharma. Virtuous spiritual friends are also of two types: initially, relying on someone skilled in the Bodhisattva's teachings, or merely someone capable of imparting correct instructions; later, meeting the Buddha directly, who then reveals the correct instructions for practice. How one contemplates the words and meanings that have been heard is thinking. When it aligns with scripture and reason, it is called severing exaggerations. The manner of this is: all things depend on causes and conditions, therefore they are unborn; because they are unborn, they have not arisen anywhere; nature does not exist, place does not exist. The nature of illusion does not exist, there is no center or edge, therefore it does not abide in any direction or part. There is no consciousness, there are no things. Transcending consciousness, therefore there is no consciousness; because it is separated from all objects of grasping and being grasped, there are no things. May one realize the Dharma of emptiness! Because this is emptiness, it is thus ascertained. This is called the selflessness of phenomena. The self of phenomena refers to what can become phenomena, but upon examination, it cannot be found. Therefore, it destroys all objects. Thus, it is also called that which destroys all things. Non-Buddhists fabricate a permanent, singular, independent 'self,' and call it sentient being, life, person, nourisher, etc. Therefore, it is empty in both meaning and expression. As the great Buddha sage said: 'Sentient being does not exist, life does not exist, person does not exist, nourisher does not exist, may one realize the Dharma of no-self!' Thus abiding in meaning. This shows that, in this way, one can negate the self-grasping of persons and the self-grasping of phenomena. Grasping at self and grasping at what belongs to self, not abiding in all things. The so-called 'self' is not the thing itself, but... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
