All Bodhisattvas will learn, and all Bodhisattvas who have appeared in the ten directions now, and all those who are learning now, I will truly accept. ' Repeat this twice or three times. The basis of all the benefits and happiness of existence, the trunk of the seed of perfect Buddhahood, whoever has the sacred lotus of the mind born, all those mind-gardens are places to be revered. Here, the ritual for taking the Bodhicitta according to the Madhyamaka school as explained in 'Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life' will be written, divided into preliminary practices, main practices, and concluding practices. First is: 'Until I reach the essence of enlightenment, I take refuge in the Buddhas; likewise, I take refuge in the Dharma and the Sangha of Bodhisattvas.' Recite three times. 'In the past, I transgressed your teachings, but now, seeing great fear, I seek refuge in you, please quickly dispel my fear.' This is taking refuge. Then, arrange the offerings and actual offerings: 'In the ten directions of the world, all the lions (Buddhas) who have passed, are present, and will come, I prostrate to them with body, speech, and mind. By the power of the aspiration of Samantabhadra's conduct, I manifest all Buddhas in my mind, and with bodies multiplied as many as dust particles, I prostrate to all Buddhas. On one particle of dust, there are Buddhas as many as dust particles, and the Buddhas residing in the center of the Buddha's children. Likewise, all realms of Dharma are filled with Buddhas. With endless oceans of praise, with all the tones of the ocean of voices, praising the qualities of all Buddhas, I praise all the Sugatas. With excellent flowers, excellent garlands, and beautiful instruments, fragrant oils, supreme canopies, lamps, and excellent incense, I make offerings to all those Buddhas. With excellent clothes, excellent perfumes, and piles of incense powder like Mount Meru, and all the excellent offerings that are particularly adorned, I make offerings to all those Buddhas. I visualize all the supreme and vast offerings, offering them to all Buddhas. With faith in the power of Samantabhadra's conduct, I prostrate and make offerings to all Buddhas. Controlled by desire, hatred, and ignorance, whatever sins I have committed with body, speech, and mind, I confess them all individually. All the Buddhas and Buddha's children in the ten directions, as well as all Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and beings who are learning, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I rejoice in the merit of all the saints, those in training and beyond, and all beings. To those lights of the ten directions who have successively attained stainless enlightenment, I urge them to turn the unsurpassed wheel of the Dharma. To those who wish to show passing into Nirvana, I also pray with folded hands that they remain for as many eons as there are grains of sand in the fields, for the benefit and happiness of all beings. Whatever slight virtue I have accumulated through prostration, offering, confession, rejoicing, urging, and requesting, I dedicate it all to the attainment of enlightenment. Thus perform the seven-branch offering. Secondly, there are two types of Bodhicitta (བྱང་ཆུབ་ཀྱི་སེམས་,bodhicitta, bodhicitta, the mind of enlightenment): aspiring Bodhicitta and engaging Bodhicitta. Bodhicitta can be summarized as: 'The aspiring mind of enlightenment, and the engaging mind of enlightenment.' (from *Bodhicaryāvatāra*). These two are like the difference between wanting to go and actually going. As it says: 'What is the difference between wanting to go and actually going? The wise should understand that there is a gradual difference.' Therefore, there is also a difference in the benefits of the two. From the aspiring Bodhicitta, great fruits will arise in samsara, but it does not continuously produce merit like the engaging Bodhicitta. From the moment one generates the irreversible mind to liberate the infinite realms of sentient beings, from that moment on, even in sleep or carelessness, the power of merit will arise endlessly like the sky. 'Whoever has generated the mind to liberate infinite beings, from that time until sleep or play, their merit will constantly increase, surpassing their previous merit.' (from *Bodhicaryāvatāra*). Merely aspiring to unsurpassed enlightenment already has immeasurable benefits, what more to say about practicing after entering the path of Bodhi? One should contemplate this in their mind. When taking it oneself, these explanations are not necessary. One should think: How did the Buddhas of the past generate Bodhicitta and how did they train? I too shall generate Bodhicitta in order to place all beings in the state of perfect Buddhahood, and I shall gradually train in the practices of a Bodhisattva. As it says: 'As the Sugatas of the past first generated the mind of enlightenment, and then successively dwelt in the practices of the Bodhisattvas, so too, for the benefit of beings, I will generate the mind of enlightenment, and likewise diligently train in the practices.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
