Teach me like a mother!' Repeat three times. Afterwards: 'For the sake of elevating my mind, today my life has meaning. I have obtained a good human existence, today I am born into the Buddha's lineage, now I have become a son of the Buddha. Now, by all means, I will begin actions that are in accordance with the lineage, and for this flawless Sangha lineage, I will not make it impure, I will do it that way. For the sake of making others happy, today in front of all the protectors, I invite beings, Sugatas, and those in between who are happy, as guests, may the gods and asuras and others be happy.' Recite this once. After taking the Bodhisattva vows, regarding the root downfalls, there are five near downfalls for a king, five near downfalls for a minister, and eight near downfalls for ordinary people, totaling eighteen. From the perspective of objects, the downfalls of the ministers can be combined into one, so there are fourteen. The four parajikas (defeats) mentioned in the Bodhisattva Grounds, and the aspirations of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, should be protected. The key points of what actions lead to downfalls and the images of downfalls, and what actions do not lead to downfalls and the images of not leading to downfalls, will be explained. Because this is the core of the Bodhisattva's training. Or, taking refuge is: The great teacher Nagarjuna said this: 'All Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, please listen to me. I, named ..., in order to not cut off the lineage of the Buddha, from this time until abiding in the essence of enlightenment, take refuge in the perfectly complete Buddha, the best of the two-legged, who has great compassion, is all-knowing and all-seeing, free from all fears, is a great being, is the best of beings, has an inconceivable body, is the supreme body, possesses the Dharmakaya. I take refuge in the supreme Dharma, free from attachment, which is unsurpassed, possessed by the Tathagata, is the peaceful Dharmakaya, I take refuge in individual wisdom. I take refuge in the Sangha of the tamed, the best of the assemblies, I take refuge in the Sangha of the great Bodhisattvas who are non-returning among the noble ones of the four directions.' Repeat this three times. As many as there are, at the end of the limit, generating the mind [of enlightenment]: All Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, please listen to me. Just as the Buddhas, Arhats, Perfectly Enlightened Ones of the past, when they practiced the Bodhisattva conduct in the past --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the sake of delivering all sentient beings, for the sake of liberating all sentient beings, for the sake of comforting all sentient beings, for the sake of completely freeing all sentient beings from suffering, and for the sake of establishing all sentient beings in the wisdom of omniscience. Just as one generates the mind of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, so too, I, who am called [name], from this time forward, until I reach the essence of enlightenment (Bodhi), for the sake of delivering all sentient beings, for the sake of liberating all sentient beings, for the sake of comforting all sentient beings, for the sake of completely freeing all sentient beings from suffering, and for the sake of establishing all sentient beings in the wisdom of omniscience, I generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment.’ Having said this, the remaining parts should be added as before. This is one way to enter the Vajrayana: the great master opens, and guides in other ways. To demonstrate the Vajrayana, I make respectful prostrations as my activity. Here, those who wish to practice the conduct of the tantric path of the Bodhisattva, the mind of ultimate truth, should generate (Bodhi): The teacher says: ‘Child, since you abide without obscurations in the three times, receive the vows to enter the great commitment!’ The student bows, joins their palms, kneels, and sits. ‘Teacher, please listen, I, who am called [name], until I reach the essence of enlightenment, please grant me the vows to enter the great commitment. I wish to accept the teacher's command with the crown of my head.’ Then the teacher says: ‘Son of good family, listen! You who desire unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, from now until you abide in the essence of enlightenment, with superior intention, offer my body to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.’ Then the student says: ‘All the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, please listen, I, who am called [name], from this time forward, until I reach the essence of enlightenment, offer myself at all times to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.’ All the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, for the sake of your compassion for me, please accept my offering.’ By reciting this three times, one takes the vows. To generate (Bodhi) with the nature of a truly meaningful aspiration is also like this: saying thus: ‘All the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, please listen to me. I, who am called [name], from this moment onward, until the essence of enlightenment --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
