In short, the connection between body, speech, and mind will not be severed, therefore, the distinction between samsara and nirvana must be explained. Thus it is said. The method of distinguishing is: do as taught by the master or the preliminary practices. Although there are twenty-one behaviors of a renunciate yogi, here only seven are done. First, the behavior of gathering from all the gates like a bee (358) searching for a hive is: through listening, distinguish between what to take and what to abandon, dharma and non-dharma; through thinking, keep the meaning in mind and suppress afflictions; through meditation, settle in reality and uproot afflictions. As an aid to this, the behavior of entering the nest without hesitation like a bird is: the bird first builds a nest in a place where no one and no other beings can harm it, and then enters the nest without hesitation. Similarly, cut off doubts about the dharmas, and take one deity that you are convinced of as a refuge and begin to practice, and also ask about the key points of view and practice. Meditate by cutting off doubts without hesitation, and do not practice just to obtain a heavenly realm, so it is most important to accept all the key points of completely cutting off doubts. As an aid to this, the behavior of not acting like everyone else, like a wild animal is: like a doe fleeing from humans because of pain, (359) the yogi also has teachings, and because of aversion to samsara, he practices alone in uninhabited mountains or empty valleys. As an aid to this, the behavior of being like a mute is: cut off speech and do not talk to anyone. After doing this, there will be a behavior of memory freezing like dementia: the mind is separated from negation and affirmation, language flows naturally and is unrelated, the body is separated from hiding and shame, and memory and discrimination disappear without distinction. At this time, there will naturally appear behaviors like dogs and pigs, without cleanliness or uncleanliness: enjoy food without distinguishing between good and bad, and wear clothes without distinguishing between good and bad. Appearances go without hindrance. After perfecting the six like this, there will be a behavior like a lion, which cannot be suppressed: the lion himself has perfected the three powers, so he can suppress everything, and nothing can suppress him. Similarly, the yogi has also perfected the merits of view (360) and practice, so he can control all appearances.

I subdue with power. (For) anyone who cannot be subdued with power, acting extremely unrestrainedly without fear or concern. From now on, by freely transforming appearances, one can transform disbelief into belief, and the merit of being able to revive the dead will arise. If these actions are named, they are called the actions of freely transforming appearances, because for external appearances, inner awareness freely transforms into the Dharma nature of primordial liberation. These are also said in the "Union of Sun and Moon": With the behavior of a bee, taste the flavor of all dharmas. With the behavior of a wild animal, abandon the objects that cause delusion. With the behavior of a mute, completely abandon deluded speech. With the behavior of a hawk, cut off doubts with secret mantras. With the behavior of a madman, abandon places of solitude. With the behavior of a lion (361), abandon the mind of fear and walk in the charnel ground. With the behavior of a dog and pig, abandon the discrimination of clean and unclean. Thus it is said. Second, the instruction of appearance-fixation is: By fixing on whatever appears, liberation is there where you fix. This is the method of appearance-fixation. By training on a part of phenomena, the image is completely purified. By training on all phenomena, the nature is completely purified. This comes from the key of appearance-liberation, vanishing in the place of seeing. The meaning is that whatever appears is decided on its own, so that the deluded appearance is purified without clinging. For this key, sealing all negation, affirmation, attachment, aversion, hope, and doubt with appearance-fixation, they vanish on their own. Through the saying "acting with a companion," it is extremely profound. Generally, there are four ways of liberation: Primordial liberation is like space, called liberation by the key of no bondage. Self-liberation is like a snake knot, showing that one liberates oneself without other antidotes (362). Spontaneous liberation is like a wave, arising is self-liberation, not depending on the before and after of a moment. Appearance-liberation is like the moon in water, the seen appearance has no nature, and the seer vanishes without distinction, or like snow falling on a hot stone, simultaneously liberating in the place of seeing. The meaning is that on the appearance, awareness vanishes without trace or clinging, called appearance-liberation. These four ways of liberation purify whatever arises as action. Third, the intention is the basis for the appearance of existence.
