It is necessary. All the happiness of heavens and liberation arises from practicing the ten virtues and other good deeds, so one should think that it is necessary to practice them. Therefore, it is necessary to know what to adopt and abandon in terms of virtue and vice. Then, training the mind in faith: faith arises from admiring the qualities of the Three Jewels and the superiors, and cultivating pure perception by knowing that all sentient beings possess the essence of enlightenment. Therefore, it is necessary to become a suitable vessel. Then, training the mind in compassion (195): all sentient beings have been kind parents from beginningless time, wandering in samsara, and still unable to be liberated, separated from the light of the Dharma, how pitiful. May my happiness make them happy, may their suffering ripen upon me, and may my virtue quickly liberate them from samsara. Thus, meditate from one sentient being to all. Therefore, it is necessary to transform into the path of the Great Vehicle. Then, training the mind in dreams and illusions: Thus, all phenomena that appear as objects are like yesterday's dream, merely clear appearances. They are not truly established at the time of appearance, and the phenomena that appear as body, speech, and mind do not exist, the appearance is the nature of illusion and emptiness. Meditate on all internal and external objects and minds as emptiness, dreams, and illusions. Therefore, it is necessary to realize the two selflessnesses of phenomena and persons. Then, training the mind in the special means of non-conceptualization, there are two (196): The guidance of wind is: among the seven dharmas of the body, the neck is slightly raised. The lower end of the three channels curves from below the navel to the central channel, the upper end from between the eyebrows to the inside of the left and right nostrils, the red and white channels. The central channel penetrates the Brahma aperture. The breath exhaled from the nostrils is like smoke, becoming longer and longer. When inhaling, all that is stable and moving merges into one space, inhaling the red and white channels merges into the central channel, and the mind should slowly control the breath. Therefore, it is necessary to give rise to the wisdom of clear light non-conceptualization. Then, the guidance of bindu is: in the navel channel, fire blazes from the short A (Tibetan: ཨ་ཐུང་, Devanagari: अ थुं, Romanized Sanskrit: a thung, Literal Chinese meaning: short A). The Hum (Tibetan: ཧཾ་, Devanagari: हं, Romanized Sanskrit: ham, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) at the crown of the head melts. The essence of the white and red bindus descends. The three channels, four chakras, and the entire body gradually fill. Joy arises from bliss, and the mind focuses on the vam (Tibetan: བཾ་, Devanagari: वं, Romanized Sanskrit: vam, Literal Chinese meaning: vam) the size of a bean in the heart.
