Fifth, to distinguish the self-defects of the mind with six kinds of order, and sixth, to explain the self-nature of the mind with six kinds of constant cycles. Among them, the indication of the name is: In order to make those with superior faculties understand by relying only on sound, meaning, and words, therefore, the name's sound transformation and abiding manner are indicated; in order to make those with intermediate faculties understand by relying only on the symbols of samsara and nirvana, therefore, the name's symbolic transformation is indicated; in order to make those with inferior faculties understand by relying only on the self-nature of the meaning, therefore, the name's meaning transformation is indicated in conjunction with the pith instructions. Among them, the mind-essence of the nature of reality, because there is no ignorance, therefore, there is no name of delusion caused by the point of never having arisen before. Now, because of the point that delusion is untrue, therefore, it does not abide in the present arising, and the various different thoughts naturally vanish. Because of the point that it is impossible to arise later, therefore, samsara itself is liberated from the very beginning, so it is called the letter "སྭ་". Therefore, movement naturally vanishes, so it is called all phenomena exhausted at the point of exhaustion. Such an abiding manner, the way of abiding of reality, depends on the view that can be touched. Being skilled in the way of exhausting with the view of emptiness, being skilled in the time of exhausting with the view of liberation, being skilled in the extent of exhausting with the viewlessness, therefore, thoughts naturally return, and at that time, the three times also do not go beyond the wheel of the dharma-dhatu, the single taste of emptiness, so "ཚ་" arises as naturally exhausted. This itself is ignorance self-abiding, self-manifesting, self-liberating, so "དུ་" is the past. All afflictions such as ignorance do not go beyond the wheel of the single taste of natural liberation. This again is understood by relying on the wisdom that arises from the ground itself, so it is the letter "པེ་". With the wisdom of emptiness, the thoughts of signs naturally exhaust; from the aspect of the wisdom itself being clear, all phenomena of appearance and sound naturally liberate; from the aspect of the wisdom abiding, self-arising and self-manifesting are understood. This again is reciting "ལ་" in the state of emptiness exhausted, so "ལ་" is non-abiding and unreal, manifesting in everything, so it is the limit. Such a meaning is understood by relying on the bodies of beings, so it is called the letter "ན་". This again is, because the primordial mind-essence is not stained by karma and habitual tendencies, therefore, the habitual tendencies of thoughts...

Sever the flesh and blood of worldly existence. Since there is no formation of colors in sequential characteristics within the emptiness of mind-essence, sever the flesh and blood of the illusory body of wisdom. Since mind-essence is vast, transcending faults and virtues, sever the flesh and blood of the precious secret body. Ultimately, since it does not abide in the body, if one knows the suchness of form, one will know the essence and pride of all dharmas. (80) Furthermore, since mind-essence is the unmade ground, it transcends actions and efforts. Since it is the untransformed path, it transcends approaching and cultivation. Since it is the unadulterated fruit, it transcends hope and fear, as well as affirmation and negation. Therefore, "Ma" (མ་, Sanskrit: mā, Devanagari: मा, literal meaning: not) is the initial ground, mind-essence dissolves, so samsara and nirvana cease simultaneously, and the three realms are without name. The indicated transformation of names and symbols is as follows: In general, all dharmas are examined through symbols, and it is impossible for there to be dharmas, etc., that are not understood through symbols. Through the symbol of self-nature, samsara simultaneously appears as dharmata. Through the symbol of speech, the meaning of the names of all dharmas is determined. Through the symbol of actions and teachings, realization arises in the continuum. Therefore, all phenomena of appearance and sound are also examined through symbols. Even the term "Tibetan language" is examined through symbols, so everything is liberated into the oral instructions of symbolic meaning. The combination of meaning-transformed oral instructions is: (81) The meaning of "mind" is: One should know the seven aspects of essence, definition, classification, the manner of vanishing, the time of vanishing, the place of vanishing, and the characteristic of exhaustion. Among these, the essence of mind is that it enters from abiding, pervades through entering, and exhausts through pervading. The definition is that wherever the mind is, it is called mind because it is mindful of samsara and nirvana. What does it mind? It minds different movements and various thoughts. Why does it mind? It minds for the sake of entering samsara and nirvana. How does it mind? It minds like the son of Indra, Sujata, minds wealth, so it is called mind. The classification will be explained below. The manner of vanishing is that various thoughts are sudden, so they suddenly vanish and are not stained by karma and habitual tendencies, because the nature of mind is emptiness, and the essence transcends being identified. Just as clouds and so on suddenly arise from the sky and suddenly vanish, without direction (82) and distinction, and without trace, so it is like being unstained. The time of vanishing is when recognizing between prior and subsequent thoughts.
