Shin Dzogchen is the reality of suchness, so recognize it. Thus he spoke. He had the students stand up and look at the four directions of the sky in turn, and the lama said: Alas, alas, son of lineage! Look with your eyes to the east of the sky. In the eastern (207) space, Meditate on going without obstruction. Alas, alas, son of lineage! Look with your eyes to the south of the sky. In the southern space, Meditate on going without obstruction. Alas, alas, son of lineage! Look with your eyes to the west of the sky. In the western space, Meditate on going without obstruction. Alas, alas, son of lineage! Look with your eyes to the north of the sky. In the northern space, Meditate on going without obstruction. If you think of going, there is no one who goes. If you think of where to go, there is nowhere to go. The thought of going is your own mind. The mind is emptiness, free from extremes. After saying this, he said again: Alas, son of lineage, where did your mind first come from? Look at what causes and conditions it came from. When he could not find it, he said again: Alas, son of lineage, listen. In the nature of mind, which is without root, There is no thing that has not been born from the beginning. There is no color or shape, and nothing to grasp. It has not come from anywhere, and there is nowhere to go. It does not abide now, and there are no causes or conditions. This is the nature of mind, Know it to be inexpressible. After saying this, he explained the meaning. Then he had them meditate on the forms of the five families in the center of the sky, and the lama said: Alas, son of lineage, Look at this form of the Victorious Ones. It appears with many ornaments and attire. The appearance and grasping is your own mind. Look at it, and it is without foundation. Likewise, the form of appearance in the realm of mind, The realm itself is clear and empty of substance. That is the clear and empty Dharmakaya. After saying this, he strung a rosary of bells on a long stick, and struck the base of the stick on the ground, saying: Alas, son of lineage, Is the sound of this pleasant or unpleasant? Listen well or look at its essence. Grasping at the sound is your own mind. The mind is the sound of the Dharma, empty of sound. Look at it, and it is without foundation. Likewise, all sounds that appear, Although you hear various things, they are empty in essence. Although they appear clearly, they are empty in nature. When they arise, they have no basis.

Rootless. The essence cannot be determined. That is what is called emptiness. Also, let the smell of incense and medicine etc. be smelled. Alas, son of a noble family, you, when you have pleasant and unpleasant feelings about the fragrance of incense and medicine, as well as unpleasant smells, look back at your own mind, where does it come from and where does it go? What is its essence like? Observe the essence of the mind of refutation and establishment. That is the consciousness that arises from conditions, and the dualistic consciousness is sudden. It appears because of conditions, but its essence is emptiness. After saying that, he let them taste sweet and sour tastes. Alas, son of a noble family, you, taste the deliciousness of food. Observe the expert who tastes the six flavors of sweet, sour, salty, spicy, bitter, and astringent. Even if you look, you cannot find it, there is no birth. Understand it as the Middle Way without boundaries, without elaboration, and the self-liberated Dharmakaya. Also, take off the clothes on your shoulders and let them touch the smooth and rough textures, and then say, Alas, son of a noble family, you, the mind that arises from refutation and establishment upon touch, no matter what dualistic grasping arises from it, is clearly empty in nature. Understand it in your own mind. The mind is the nature of the empty and clear Dharmakaya, and it is rootless from the beginning. After saying that, he let them meditate on happiness and suffering, like and dislike, attachment and aversion, etc. After saying that, Alas, son of a noble family, you, look back at your own mind, no matter what happiness and suffering, refutation and establishment appear, observe the mind that appears. Like and dislike arise from the mind, no matter what happiness and suffering arise, they are clear and the essence of awareness is emptiness. It is like the moon in the water. Also, let the spontaneous arising of the five poisons and three poisons arise in the mind. After saying that, Alas, son of a noble family, you, no matter what five poisons and three poisons arise, they are like the image in a mirror. Although they appear in the mind, they cannot be determined. Afflictions are baseless and rootless. There is no color or shape, and it cannot be determined. It is originally the unborn Dharmakaya. The nature of afflictive thoughts arises from the mind and disappears in the mind. Arising and liberation are equal, like waves. All gross and subtle thoughts naturally subside in their own place without clinging to them. Thus, if the nature is not established, if you realize the weakness of afflictions, there is no need to refute and abandon the opponent.
