Popilin was also subdued by the emanation of the Chakravartin. King Utrayana was subdued by your painted image. Manjushri, with his miraculous powers, subdued the hosts of demons, including the gods, and liberated them through the Dharma. King Ajatashatru's sins, were purified by the instruction of the great cloth. Casting ascetics, Arhats, and beings, into hell, and then later rescuing them. Vajrapani, with his great strength, killed and subdued Maheshvara. Subduing the armies of demons by intimidation. Subduing the goddess Namdru by praise. The compassion of Avalokiteshvara, as well as the ritual practice of mantras, and the preparation of medicinal pills, were all used to well heal suffering beings. Likewise, the compassionate Bodhisattva, subdues with three kinds of miracles. It is said that he protects all these worlds, as if they were his only child. To subdue the difficult to tame Shravasti and others, he praised Shariputra and others, great Shravaka disciples. For the sake of lineage and activity, and to subdue kings of other lands, he sent the venerable Katyayana and others. Whomever he subdued by whatever means, he subdued all in that way. Such inconceivable activities, even if seen or heard, who would not be amazed? The past activities were like that. Now beings are miserable, without a protector, without a guide, ignorant and not knowing the direction, like wild animals trapped in a snare. If you do not look after these beings, then how will your compassion, which you possess, be manifested? Please tell me. If you do not look after suffering beings, where is your great compassion? When suffering people seek help out of fear, they seek refuge in you and flee. In the process of fleeing, what is the use of your compassion, what is the use of Avalokiteshvara? If your help cannot benefit those beings who are subject to karma, then what would happen if you just said a word of comfort to those suffering people? Even if you cannot benefit worldly people, at least be a friend to those who suffer. If you could do just a small part of that, even just the comfort of three breaths. Even so, omniscient one, if you do not look after us beings, then now, who can protect us, alas, to whom else can we seek refuge? Just as the emanation king (referring to the Buddha) rejoices, striving to emanate for the sake of liberation. The magician, with the power of illusion, liberates from all fears. Please, protector, with your miraculous powers, liberate us from all fears. The above scripture has been explained. End of the prayer. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to Generate Courage for Requesting. The third is how to generate the courage to request: O Protector, though you benefit all, you regard demons and heretics as enemies. Even if Lha sbyin Legs pa'i skar ma, etc., become disciples, they turn their backs. Sentient beings have various inclinations, and even the all-knowing cannot please everyone. It is laughable that a bad person like me wants to accomplish the benefit of sentient beings. Just as a mother feels special compassion for a sick child, so too do the Victorious Ones with their children especially cherish those who are not virtuous. Because the words spoken in that way are concise, I, a fool, have generated courage. To the king of laughter (referring to Shantideva's self-deprecation), however one speaks, he will not be angry. This law was established by the previous virtuous ones for the sake of worldly happiness. In the play of the Buddhas, the wrathful king (referring to Vajrapani) with compassion urges, and thus all the Buddhas give blessings. In that way, having shrunk back, compassionate one, again and again to you, O Protector, I unknowingly send a message of request, and I have developed a hernia (metaphor for greatly increased courage). Having heard this guide to requesting, even if you do not speak directly to beings, please instruct them with a message. This shows how to generate courage. The Meaning of the Conclusion of the Treatise. The third is the meaning of the conclusion of the treatise, which includes: How to offer the seven branches; how to explain other special features of dedication; to clearly state the truth and falsehood to beings; and to dedicate the merit and state the author. First, how to offer the seven branches: O Protector, I seek your qualities, and I also remember your kindness. Therefore, with a body that finds the dust of the fields, I prostrate with my head. With outer, inner, and secret meanings, with body and unsurpassed clouds of offerings, I offer to the ocean of qualities. Driven by the wind of karma, we have fallen into the ocean of sins. Therefore, I confess all the misdeeds I have committed in every way. I rejoice in all the merit done by the disciples of the worldly Victors, the solitary realizers, and the children of the Victors, the Buddhas. Seeing the world as foolish, the Buddhas do not turn the wheel of Dharma. I request you to turn the wheel of Dharma for the sake of sentient beings, including gods, in the world. It is difficult to find the arising of a Buddha. In order to teach, the Buddhas intend to pass into sorrow. Therefore, I request you to remain in the world for the sake of beings. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
