What is the basis? Whose fame is widely proclaimed in the three realms? To the feet of the immaculate lotus of the Lord of beings, the all-knowing one, I pay homage. Thus it is taught. Third, the connection for requesting is: Svasti! Possessing eyes of compassion, with the wisdom eye that sees all, to the one who directly sees the world, Protector, I beseech you. Thus it is taught. The actual meaning of the treatise to be entered into, consists of three parts: the preliminary request, the actual request, and the subsequent request. First, the preliminary request is further divided into: mentioning the deeds of the predecessors, how the followers should practice, and how Sakya Pandita himself acted towards the teachings. First, mentioning the deeds of the predecessors is further divided into four parts: how they first generated the supreme Bodhicitta and accumulated merit, how they turned the wheel of Dharma after becoming Buddhas, how the Sangha gathered based on the Dharma, and how they entrusted the teachings and then passed into Nirvana. First, the way of generating the supreme Bodhicitta and accumulating merit: You first generated the Bodhicitta, solely for the sake of others. Thereafter, with diligence for countless three kalpas, you accomplished it without regard for body and life. Thus it is taught. Secondly, the way of turning the wheel of Dharma after becoming Buddhas: Then, at the Bodhi tree, you attained the supreme Bodhi, and in a wonderful and supreme way, turned the wheel of Dharma of liberation. Thus it is taught. Thirdly, the way the noble Sangha gathered based on the Dharma: This is your supreme Dharma, which gathered the noble Sangha. Thus it is taught. Fourthly, the way of entrusting the teachings and passing into Nirvana: When I pass into Nirvana, this Dharma will be your teacher. Thereafter, without diminishing the words and meanings, uphold my teachings. Thus, he entrusted the teachings to the supreme son. Furthermore, the teachings of the final five hundred years were also entrusted to those who hold the scriptures. All their activities of practice were diligently entrusted to the lord of gods and humans, and to all powerful patrons. Thus, the Protector showed the way of passing into Nirvana. Thus it is taught. Secondly, how the followers should practice, is divided into two ways: the way of practicing well and the way of practicing wrongly. First, the way of practicing well: Thereafter, the noble beings and the learned ordinary people, as well as the Dharma kings... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
