If one relies on goodness, one's merits will naturally increase. Like a bird perched on a golden mountain, it will also turn golden in color. With the wisdom to discern good and evil, carefully examine all aspects, past and future. If all actions are performed with mindfulness and care, one will surely turn away from faults. Do not do what should not be done; what should be done will naturally be pursued. The merits accumulated by the wise bring joy wherever they go. Knowing the merits accumulated in the past, be diligent in all matters and do not abandon them lightly. If one does not diligently exert effort, how can one extract तेल (藏文,梵文天城体,tail,梵文罗马拟音,taila, sesame oil) from तिल (藏文,梵文天城体,til,梵文罗马拟音,tila, sesame) without effort? As a father loves his son, so should a ruler cherish his subjects. As a son respects his father, so should subjects be pleased with their ruler. Therefore, if you wish to be respected, strive wholeheartedly for the benefit of others. Has it not been seen that a servant who pleases his master may become a ruler? If one is appointed as the leader of the people but seeks only personal pleasure and enjoyment, Is it not like saying, 'I am a pure Brahmin,' while eating dog meat? Treat subjects without favoritism, do not establish evil customs or create new rules. Maintaining the good customs of the past is the duty of rulers. The peace of the neighborhood and the prosperity of the country are the merits of the ruler himself. Is not the blooming of lotuses in a lake the merit of the lake? The ruin of the neighborhood and the decline of the country are signs of the ruler's wickedness. A tree without branches and twigs becomes a fault of the tree itself. If a ruler is wicked and selfish, he will destroy his neighbors himself. Does not unclean food harm the body itself? If the wealth of the country declines, it is also a cause of the ruler's decline. A pond without water will surely dry up. If the wealth of the country increases, it is also a source of the ruler's wealth. If a tree flourishes, fruits will ripen continuously. Therefore, kings and all rulers should treat their subjects well. Govern them well and collect taxes moderately; if done in this way, all will be happy. Otherwise, to destroy one's neighbors for the sake of personal gain is like desiring flowers from a charred tree. Cutting off seedlings versus nurturing them into trees—which is more beneficial? Discern this and apply it to all. A bad ruler cannot govern well. If a student wants to go elsewhere to study, he harbors resentment. Being without true talent himself, he is jealous of the abilities of others.

It is like guiding others when you yourself have no eyes. Appointing a bad person as an official only leads to destruction. Just as appointing a fox as king leads to ruin, everyone says. When bad officials and bad servants gather together, even if wealth increases for a while, it is like throwing an egg into the sky; it will be destroyed without being eaten by demons. A wise person strives to do all things well and acts with caution. Such a person will enjoy all wealth in this life and the next. Wealth is not exhausted by use, but by the exhaustion of merit. Well water is not exhausted by drawing, but by the exhaustion of its source. For a person without merit, even with various methods and efforts, perfect results will not arise. Therefore, strive to accumulate merit. In this world, one will be praised by all; in the next, one will be happy through the Dharma. A person who possesses these two qualities, in short, is one who understands the world. Chapter Six of 'The Mirror of Worldly Conduct': Understanding the World. By relying on wise people who possess both scripture and realization, and by widely hearing the Dharma, one can become proficient in all scriptures. A person who is proficient in reading with clarity, purity, and without obstruction is the root of all virtues and the foundation of proficiency in scriptures. Without mixing, with balance, speed, and accurate letters that meet the standards, one neither disturbs one's own understanding nor increases the virtues of others. By understanding the application of the eight bases of language, the three groups of words, and so on, one can understand the composition of beautiful poetry that is without connection, contradiction, or repetition. If one can see the meaning of pure reason arising from connection and strength, one will not fear the slander of bad debaters and will gain firm views. Without being confused about the scriptures and commentaries of the four divisions (Vinaya, Sutra, Abhidharma, and Prajna), and guarding the precepts as one's life, one is the owner of the Buddha's teachings. A person who is proficient in the vast Mahayana scriptures will not be confused about all the actions of a Bodhisattva. If one understands the Abhidharma, which fully explains all phenomena of samsara and nirvana, one will be proficient in all the terms of the Buddha's scriptures. By relying on a qualified lama, hearing the collections of wisdom, and studying diligently with faith for a long time, a person endowed with Dharma will arise. With pure morality as the foundation --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
