without interruption. The vows of a Vidyadhara (rig pa 'dzin pa,holder of knowledge) are: Having properly received the empowerment without any inversion, Being rooted in the two lower vows, possessing all the qualities spoken of in the Tantras, having properly received the undiminished stream of empowerment from the great Vajradhara (rdo rje 'chang,Diamond Holder), the lord of all families, Without generating even the slightest ordinary conceptualization, blessing the display of the three Vajras (sku gsung thugs rdo rje gsum, body, speech, and mind) into a wheel of light, And transforming the color into the essence of deity and wisdom, spending time solely in the appearance of pure and vast realms, without any doubt or hesitation. Second, regarding the manner of alternating between hearing, contemplating, and meditating: From the masters of wisdom and accomplishment such as Vajradhara, Muschen Sempa Chenpo ('Mus chen sems pa chen po,Great Mind Muschen), Jamyang Sherab Gyatso ('Jam dbyangs shes rab rgya mtsho), etc., first hearing about fifteen times the oral transmissions of empowerments, subsequent permissions, transmissions, and instructions related to the four classes of Tantra, and explanations of countless Tibetan and Indian treatises, etc., Furthermore, he received such oceanic teachings as the Vinaya ( 'dul ba,discipline), Abhidharma (mngon pa,phenomenology), and Prajnaparamita (pha rol tu phyin pa,perfection of wisdom). Thus, what was heard was not merely words, but the meaning was understood, And for each and every category of Dharma, the source of the lineage was spoken of without any inversion. During those times, his own study of the scriptures was also inconceivable, Most of the Tibetan Geshes (dge ba'i bshes gnyen, spiritual friends) with broad views look at the writings of Chöjé Butön (chos rje bu ston,Lord of Dharma Buton) and then say that they have seen it themselves. The breadth of Vajradhara's vision is almost unprecedented in Tibet. It is said that, We ourselves have also read through all of the Lama's manuscripts once, and about half of them again, According to the old catalog, there are over seven hundred volumes of books in the Labrang (bla brang, monastery). Each of the things that were read is clearly remembered in the mind, and even the smallest source of transmission is clearly stated with signs, such as 'it is here,' which is very amazing! Although he engages in such hearing and contemplation, his mind remains unwavering in Samadhi (ting nge 'dzin, concentration), spending day and night in profound yoga, which is difficult for ordinary people to imagine. Third, regarding the manner of attaining special qualities: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3-515

例如,《道次第灌顶仪轨如意宝》(lam dus kyi dbang gi cho ga yid bzhin gyi nor bu)、《上师赞》(bla ma gong ma'i bstod pa)和《零星的证道歌》(nyams mgur thor bu)等,其文采修饰都深深吸引着智者。

Although his liberation narrative transcends the scope of our minds, it is certain that he was mainly devoted to practice, and therefore gained great stability in the samadhi of the two stages. Once, when he was attending upon the Dharma Lord Glowo Khenchenpa (chos rje glo bo mkhan chen pa), he said: 'From the moment I first went to the Dharma seat of Vajradhara (rdo rje 'chang, Sanskrit: Vajradhara, the holder of the vajra), I had a firm conviction that whatever appears is deity (lha, Sanskrit: deva, god) and wisdom (ye shes, Sanskrit: jnana, wisdom).' It is said that he said this directly. Therefore, instead of narrating various words and letters that arise in one's own mind, it is much better to hold the scriptures of the gurus, predecessors, and Buddhas in hand and narrate them, so that there will be no errors even in the words, and the understanding of the deep meaning will be very different. Therefore, he gave detailed and thorough explanations of the documents of the supreme predecessors, and the many teachings he gave were presented and poured out in a way that settled on the definitive meaning. As it is said in the 'Secret Chapter of the Tathagata' (de bzhin gshegs pa'i gsang ba'i le'u): 'Whatever Dharma is heard, it is obtained with an undefiled mind, and without expecting respect and praise, it is widely and correctly shown to others.' 'Do not show the Dharma to others by following my words.' 'Whatever is heard and however it is abided, show the Dharma to others in the same way.' This is very much in accordance with the meaning of what he said. Therefore, he himself said: 'Eating one's own food and lecturing on the books of people who are unrelated to oneself is meaningless and difficult to become Dharma. The Dharma that should be done needs to have the corresponding characteristics, as explained by Dharma Lord Sakya Pandita (chos rje sa skya paN+Di ta) in 'The Excellent Path of the Holy Sons' (rgyal sras lam bzang).' This seems very important. Therefore, in terms of both scripture and meaning, the way he taught was to grasp the liberation narrative of the omniscient one. Therefore, all the scholars of his time took the dust of his feet on their heads, untied the knot of arrogance, and enjoyed the feast of the sacred Dharma, thus making countless sacred beings his disciples. In terms of writing, he mainly focused on benefiting others, rather than focusing on literary embellishment. However, the literary embellishments he created were able to attract the wise. For example, 'The Empowerment Ritual of the Path Stage, the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel' (lam dus kyi dbang gi cho ga yid bzhin gyi nor bu), 'Praises to the Gurus' (bla ma gong ma'i bstod pa), and 'Scattered Songs of Experience' (nyams mgur thor bu), etc., their literary embellishments deeply attract the wise. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
