Those who lack drink, clothes, wealth, grain, bedding, incense, and garlands, by my power, may my name remain in their minds, and by uttering my name, may they, until the ultimate enlightenment, have drink, clothes, wealth, grain, bedding, incense, and garlands increase. Thus I prayed. This is the fifth great aspiration. When I attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment in the future, may those sentient beings who are bound, beaten, imprisoned, and whose bodies are tormented by various kinds of weapons, by my power, may my name remain in their minds, and by uttering my name, may they, until the ultimate enlightenment, be completely liberated from all bonds and beatings, and may all physical suffering cease. Thus I prayed. This is the sixth great aspiration. When I attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment in the future, may those sentient beings who are without protectors, whose bodies are burning with the fire of suffering, who are caught among lions, tigers, bears, grizzlies, and venomous snakes, who are frightened and terrified for their lives, and who utter various cries of distress, by my power, may my name remain in their minds, and by uttering my name seven times, may all the fires of suffering in their bodies be extinguished until the ultimate enlightenment, and may those lions, tigers, bears, grizzlies, and venomous snakes also abide in loving-kindness, and may they abide in a place of fearlessness and peace. Thus I prayed. This is the seventh great aspiration. When I attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment in the future, may those sentient beings who are fighting, arguing, and competing with each other, who are in conflict, fear, and panic, by my power, may my name remain in their minds, and by uttering my name seven times, may all fighting, battles, arguments, and competitions be completely pacified until the ultimate enlightenment. May I ever abide in loving-kindness! Thus he prayed. The eighth of his great aspirations is this: Whenever I, in the future, manifest the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment of Buddhahood, any sentient beings who fall into water, embark on boats to go to places without islands, those who desire life and fall into rivers and oceans, uttering various cries of distress, may they, through my power, have my name dwell in their minds, and by thinking of my name seven times, may they, until the ultimate end of enlightenment, be granted the opportunity to breathe in that great river, may they cross over without fear! Thus he prayed. Manjushri, the Bhagavan Tathagata Well-Named, Universally Renowned, King of Glory, made these eight great aspirations. Manjushri, from the time those and the Bhagavan Well-Named, Universally Renowned, King of Glory first generated the mind of enlightenment, the basis of the power of aspirations and samadhi, the conduct of Bodhisattvas, and the offerings and services made to the Tathagatas, the various miraculous displays, the purification of the Buddha-fields, and the long-term association with the perfect Bodhisattvas, these are things that all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas cannot describe even in a hundred years, except for the Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas who abide on the ten Bhumis. Manjushri, therefore, sons or daughters of good families, kings, ministers, or householders, all who seek merit, to be free from anger and all afflictions, should hold the name of that Tathagata. It should be recited, and the Tathagata should be worshipped with great reverence, so that all their sins, all karmic obscurations, and all diseases will be completely pacified. All hopes will be completely fulfilled, and they will not turn back from the enlightenment of Buddhahood. Manjushri, to the east, beyond Buddha-fields as numerous as the sands of seven Ganges Rivers from this Buddha-field, there is a world called Possessing Jewels, where there is a Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly enlightened Buddha, Jewel Moon Lotus.

The one named Ornamented Wise Glorious Melodious King dwells there. He enjoys food and drink, teaches the Dharma, and only speaks of the Great Vehicle to the Bodhisattvas. Manjushri, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, in the past, when practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, made eight great aspirations. What are the eight? His first great aspiration is: When I attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment in the future, may those sentient beings who are fond of field work and commerce, and are distracted by various activities, thus completely losing the virtuous Dharma, and completely losing the mindfulness of the Bodhi-mind, be completely liberated from the sufferings of samsara. May those who individually experience the sufferings of samsara, and experience aging, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and turmoil, through my power, with my name dwelling in their minds, and my name being verbally uttered, until the attainment of unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, immediately obtain clothing, food, drink, enjoyment, usage, wealth, grain, property, and gold. May virtuous Dharma also increase. May they never be separated from the mindfulness of the Bodhi-mind. May they be completely liberated from the sufferings of the three lower realms and hell beings. The second great aspiration of that Bhagavan is: When I attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment in the future, in the three thousand great thousand world realms, whatever sentient beings are born from eggs, born from wombs, born from moisture and heat, or born miraculously, those whose bodies are completely tormented by cold, heat, hunger, and thirst, and who are exhausted by the feeling of suffering, may they, through my power, with my name being heard in their ears, and with them remembering and uttering my name, thus may the obscurations of their past karma be completely purified, and may they be born
