It is good to pray for the benefit, welfare, and happiness of gods and humans who are completely tormented by various diseases and afflicted by various sorrows and sufferings. Manjushri, this courage of yours is born from the blessings of the Tathagata. Manjushri, therefore, listen well and keep it in mind, and I will tell you. Manjushri, the youth, said to the Blessed One, "So it is, Blessed One." Then he listened as the Blessed One did. The Blessed One said to him, "Manjushri, to the east, beyond Buddha-fields as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River from this Buddha-field, there is a world called 'Insurmountable by Other Worlds.' There resides the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, named 'Well-Named, Universally Known, Glorious King,' attended by countless billions of bodhisattvas with long hair, living, dwelling, and teaching the Dharma. Manjushri, that Buddha-field of the Tathagata 'Well-Named, Universally Known, Glorious King' is exceedingly pure, with countless hundreds of thousands of leagues in all directions, as flat as the palm of the hand, free from evil destinies and enemies of suffering, without the nature of women, without thorns, cliffs, mountains, stones, gravel, and pebbles, with a smooth surface comfortable to the touch, filled with divine fragrances, adorned with divine jewel trees, flowers, and fruits, decorated with jewel lion thrones, a place of pure, irreversible bodhisattvas, adorned with ponds decorated with Jambu River gold and pearls. Manjushri, all the bodhisattvas who dwell in that world are born miraculously, all arising from lotuses of the seven jewels. Therefore, sons or daughters of good family, with faith, obtain the aspiration to be born in that Buddha-field. Manjushri, that Tathagata 'Well-Named, Universally Known, Glorious King,' from the time of first generating the mind of enlightenment, while practicing the conduct of a bodhisattva, constantly made eight great vows. What are the eight? His vows.

The first great aspiration is: When I attain perfect and complete enlightenment in the future, if any sentient beings are tormented by various diseases, such as plagues, executioners, curses, zombies, and fears, may all of these, through my power, by keeping my name in mind, and reciting my name seven times, may all their diseases be completely pacified. Until the attainment of ultimate Bodhi, may plagues and evil spirits disappear, may they be completely pacified. Thus I prayed. The second great aspiration is: When I attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in the future, if any sentient beings are blind, deaf, mad, have vitiligo, or are afflicted by severe diseases, may they, through my power, by keeping my name in mind, and reciting my name seven times, until the attainment of ultimate Bodhi, may all their senses be fully complete, may all suffering and disease be completely cut off. Thus I prayed. The third great aspiration is: When I attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in the future, if any sentient beings are obscured by desire, hatred, and ignorance, commit the five heinous crimes, engage in what is not right, abandon the sacred Dharma, commit various sinful and unwholesome deeds, and fall into the three lower realms and hell, those sentient beings who are born in the great hell and experience suffering, may they, through my power, by keeping my name in mind, and reciting my name with their mouths, may all their karmic obscurations, including the five heinous crimes, be completely purified and completely exhausted. Until I attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, may they no longer fall into hell and the lower realms, may they experience the bliss of the gods in the heavenly realms and the bliss of humans. Thus I prayed. The fourth great aspiration is: When I attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in the future, if any sentient beings become poor, lacking food and
