One should generate a definite understanding free from doubt. Just by understanding that, even if afflictions and the like are not separated and transformed. Not being familiar with the meaning of the essence, regarding it as one's own fault, one must make corrections without any reservation, cultivating in the state of awareness, one should assert the tenets of the vidyadhara. As advised by the glorious and excellent Lama. The key to profound meaning, effortless meditation, Like the instructions of the previous vidyadharas, Written by Mipham, the blazing fire of the five poisons. The collection of teachings from the Sutra of the Essence of Space, By what means this is accomplished, May the light of the supreme vehicle's path be fully illuminated, May all beings pervading the sky go to the primordial ground. Iron Tiger Month 5 Day 10. Mangalam! The tradition of the realized old men, the instruction of pointing out the face of mind, the lamp dispelling darkness, is here. Homage to the Lama and Manjushri Wisdom Hero. Without extensive study of hearing and thinking, By the method of instructions, cultivating the face of mind, A great number of village mantra practitioners with little effort, Go to the ground of vidyadhara, this is the profound path. That is, leaving one's own mind in its natural state, not thinking anything, and in that state continuously maintaining mindfulness, at that time, a neutral, unspecified consciousness, dark and dull, will arise. At that time, if no higher seeing of "what is this, what is that" arises, then, from that aspect, the Lamas seem to name it ignorance. For that state, because one cannot say the certainty of "what is this, what is that," it is named unspecified. Because it is impossible to say where it is abiding and what it is thinking, it is called ordinary neutrality. In reality, it is abiding ordinarily and freely in the state of the alaya. Although one needs to rely on such a way of abiding to generate non-conceptual wisdom, if the wisdom of recognizing one's own face has not arisen, such a state is not the actual basis of meditation. As it is said in the Kunzang Monlam: Not remembering anything, dull and dim, that is the cause of the delusion of ignorance. Thus it is said. Like that, if one experiences with the mind such a dull consciousness that does not remember or change anything, then, naturally, one will look at the one who knows the meaning of that state and the one who abides without thinking. The awareness that is free from distraction and memory, transparent without inside or outside, like a clear sky. Although there is no experiencer and nothing to be experienced, one's own understanding of one's own nature is certain, and one feels that there is nothing else besides this.

Therefore, for that state which cannot be described with thought and speech as 'like this,' it is without limit, unspeakable, the primordial clear light, and can be called 'awareness.' When the wisdom of recognizing one's own face dawns, the darkness like a dense fog dissipates, and just as one sees inside a house when dawn breaks, a definite understanding arises regarding the nature of one's own mind. This is called the instruction for opening the shell of the egg of ignorance. When one realizes in this way, one knows that suchness, the nature of reality, is naturally present from the beginning, not compounded by causes and conditions, and unchanging throughout the three times. And one does not perceive even a particle of something called 'mind' that is different from that. Although the former, like a dense fog, is unspeakable, one is not certain because one does not know what to say. Although awareness is also unspeakable, one is certain because one has no doubt about the meaning of unspeakable. Just as there is a great difference in the way of being unspeakable between a blind person and a sighted person, the key to the distinction between the all-ground and the dharmakaya is also contained here. Therefore, regarding 'ordinary consciousness,' 'non-attention,' and 'unspeakable,' etc., there are both correct and incorrect cases, so one must ascertain the key to homophones with different meanings in order to gain the experience of profound Dharma. When one rests in the natural state of one's mind, some people cultivate a little clarity and awareness, and remain in the state of thinking that it is the clarity of consciousness. Some people hold the mind in a state of emptiness, as if consciousness has disappeared. However, both of these are merely clinging to the experience of the apprehended and the apprehender of consciousness. At that time, by looking at the state of the continuous stream of memory and apprehension, the consciousness of the clarity and the one who apprehends the clarity, the emptiness and the one who apprehends the emptiness, one uproots the support of the consciousness that clings to the apprehended and the apprehender. If a clear and bright state arises with a definite understanding of the natural state that is naked, vast, and free from the boundaries of clarity and emptiness, then that is given the name 'awareness.' This refers to the naked manifestation of awareness-wisdom, free from the shell of experience with clinging. This is called the instruction for cutting the net of existence. Similarly, one must recognize awareness, which is like the kernel of a fruit, free from the various husks of mental concepts and experiences, through the perspective of the self-nature and self-luminosity of the nature of reality. It is not enough to merely recognize the nature of awareness; one must also become accustomed to abiding in that state.
