If one thinks that it is impossible to attain Bodhi after completely eliminating the afflictive obscurations, it is like a lamp that arises and ceases in an instant, but many instants continue uninterruptedly, and it can exhaust the oil and burn the wick. Although the previous and subsequent minds do not gather together simultaneously, relying on the previous arising minds, the subsequent arising minds increase in power, and for the truth that is to be realized, the wisdom of ultimate clarity arises, and it is reasonable to eliminate what is to be abandoned. In this sutra, to illustrate this point, there are three metaphors: the metaphor of the lamp illustrates that it is reasonable to abandon what is to be abandoned, i.e., the two verses "essence of ghee," etc.; the metaphor of the seed illustrates that it is reasonable to realize what is to be realized, i.e., the two verses "from the seed," etc.; and the metaphor of the completion of abandonment and realization, i.e., the one verse "water drop," etc. Now, the eight profound aspects refer to the fact that in conventional terms, arising due to the power of the unfailing dependent origination, and not arising in ultimate terms, these two are not merely non-contradictory in understanding, but on one basis, without needing to mutually exclude each other, the extraordinary union of equal realization, is profound for arising. Similarly, after things arise, they do not remain in the second instant of self-establishment and cease, and in ultimate terms, the non-cessation of selflessness, these two are without contradiction, realizing as one taste, is profound for cessation, these two are in terms of the way of realizing the basis. On the path of training, although one is accustomed to the thusness of wisdom, due to compassion, it will not manifest at an inappropriate time, which is profound for thusness. This is because in the realm of thusness, due to extreme habituation to the cessation of all minds and mental factors, the cessation of the true cessation, it has become of one taste, and one is able to abide in equality in a way that is difficult to arise, although it is obtained from the eighth ground, but still because it has subtle cognitive obscurations, therefore the observation of thusness is not as extremely pure as that of the Buddha, therefore while abiding in equality in thusness, one has not obtained the wisdom of observing all knowable objects. Therefore, for the observation of their reality, there is still room for arising and excavation. Therefore, the Tathagata, through the way of abandoning from cessation, generates the extraordinary samadhi born from the power of complete maturation and purification, and also purifies the extremely subtle cognitive obscurations, thereby becoming a Buddha.

It is said in this way because it is not just staying in the state of mere equipoise. Since all dharmas are free from elaboration, although it is impossible to practice generosity etc., one should know the way to practice generosity etc. and other perfections without error in the relative truth. And the realization that these two are non-contradictory and united is profound in terms of what is to be known. Since all dharmas are not established by nature, in the ultimate truth, there is not even a particle to be seen by clinging to things like real and unreal. This is seeing the suchness, and it is taught as the supreme of seeing the unseen, free from the thought that there is nothing to see and that seeing it is contradictory. It is profound to know that the self-illuminating vision of wisdom, which is free from all objects of focus, is self-evident. Similarly, since there is no practice in any dharma in the ultimate truth, it is profound to understand the special realization that the non-practice is said to be the supreme practice. Although the fruit is manifested by not abandoning the practice of all paths, it is understood that in the reality, there is no duality of what is to be accomplished and what is to be accomplished, and that one abides in the nature of equality from the beginning, which is profound in non-duality. These five are profound in the way of practicing conduct. Even in that, based on the ground, although suchness exists without difference in all things, one should know that it will not be manifested until the two obscurations are not separated after the completion of perfection, maturation, and purification. On the path, there are three things: the object of knowledge, the subject of knowledge, and the practice of conduct. And the fruit is non-duality, that is, from the point of view of seeing that there is no duality of what is to be accomplished and what is to be accomplished. In the relative truth, one completely perfects the two accumulations, and not presuming to attain the fruit of Buddhahood is profound in skillful means. In reality, because one sees that what is to be attained is not focused on, and that the self-born form or the self-born wisdom body cannot be accomplished by cause. These eight profoundnesses are difficult to realize as a union of tastes in the minds of those who hold emptiness and dependent arising to be contradictory, in the way that one eliminates the other. The wisdom with eight profoundnesses, which realizes in a non-contradictory and equal way, is obtained from the eighth bhumi. The verbal expressions of body and speech that are in accordance with it are said in the scriptures to be signs of non-retrogression for others. These signs...
