For example, a person from a virtuous family, wishing to bring happiness to relatives and others, desires jewels and goes to the Jewel Island. Having obtained many jewels, he returns to his own home, where only the captain himself obtains the jewels and lives happily, without giving any to other relatives and friends, causing them displeasure. It should be known that a Bodhisattva should not be like that. Why? For example, a Bodhisattva goes to the Jewel Island of the Samadhi of Emptiness, obtains the joy of meditation and the immeasurable qualities of the five faculties, five powers, and so on. He is delighted only by attaining Nirvana himself. He does not bestow the benefits of these qualities on other sentient beings, causing them suffering. A Bodhisattva should not be like that; for the sake of sentient beings, he should cultivate these dharmas. Eighth, for example, seeking profit, etc., two verses. For example, merchants seeking jewels, in order to understand the path, go from their own home to the great cities between the Jewel Island, and the towns, that is, medium and small towns, wherever they go, they realize that staying there is meaningless, so they do not stay in the intermediate cities and so on. Even if they live on the Jewel Island, they know that it is of no benefit to their own home, so they do not stay on the Jewel Island. While walking on the road, they understand the road, and knowing that knowledge, even if they return to their own home, they do not stay, they are skilled in traveling the road, and through effort, they travel on the road. Similarly, for the sake of the benefit and happiness of sentient beings, when a Bodhisattva is learning the path of skillful means and wisdom, he becomes wise to this principle. For example, like the intermediate towns, the knowledge of the path of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, that is, they are proficient in the principle of wisdom and the fruit of liberation. They do not dwell on the inferior path and fruit themselves, nor do they dwell in the wisdom of the Buddha like the Jewel Island in a way that is attached. They also do not dwell in the unconditioned realm of Nirvana like their own home in a way that tastes the flavor. However, like temporarily walking on the road, the Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas

Knowing the manner of the three paths, one should understand that this is precisely for the benefit of limitless sentient beings. Third, summarizing the meaning, there are two parts: meaning and example. First part: When walking, etc., one verse. When, through the door of holding all beings with great love and connecting with them, that Bodhisattva who practices the supreme samadhi, which is the nature of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, will attain only the unconditioned realm of nirvana. Or, that Bodhisattva who can be considered a samsaric being does not exist. Second part: For example, the emanation, etc., one verse. Although the Bodhisattva cannot be categorized as either samsara or nirvana, that Bodhisattva will not be unknown or unseen by anyone in any way. For example, the body of an emanation is not unseen by anyone, and it can be named, and there are also descriptions of it in the world. Know that, although named, the emanation is not another individual, human or non-human. Similarly, the Bodhisattva who practices the door of the three liberations, although not abiding in existence or peace, appears in the world and can be named. Third, the difference between turning back and not turning back. There are two parts: summary and detailed explanation. First part: If there is conduct, etc., one verse. If someone asks a Bodhisattva what the conduct of becoming a son of the Victorious One is like, and how that person believes in and thinks about the profound truth, and what the faculties of faith and wisdom are like, etc. If that Bodhisattva does not fully reveal the profound Dharma of emptiness and signlessness that is realized, and because he believes that the person can trust in the nature of matured faculties, he does not explain the characteristics and features of the ground of non-retrogression, then know that this is not prophesied as non-retrogressing. For example, someone asks: How should a Bodhisattva who wants to attain enlightenment familiarize himself with emptiness without manifesting it? This can be taken as an example to illustrate non-

If someone asks, what are the actions, faculties, and signs of non-retrogression like? Then, those who have not realized it themselves are unable to explain it. As it is said in the sutra, "There are many who practice for Bodhi, but few who can answer questions." Because, one who has personally realized the Dharma of the irreversible path can answer questions with great certainty, so that people believe that this person has realized such profound Dharma and is indeed non-retrogressive, otherwise it is impossible to determine whether one is non-retrogressive. The second part is the signs of non-retrogression and the difference between being deceived by demons. The first point is the three verses beginning with "Arhat Ground" etc. Through the Great Vehicle path of the union of skillful means and wisdom, having certainly realized the state of the Hearer Arhat and the wisdom of the Solitary Realizer, that is, the extreme of peace. As for the three realms of existence, not to mention actually seeing them, one does not even wish to see them in dreams. Seeing Buddhas surrounded by a sea of retinues in dreams, and that they are teaching the Dharma to beings, this should be understood as a sign of being prophesied as non-retrogressive from the path inferior to unsurpassed Bodhi. Furthermore, a Bodhisattva endowed with the mind of compassion sees beings in the three lower realms in a dream, and at that moment makes the aspiration to cut off the suffering of the lower realms, and sees the suffering subside. Or, when asleep or awake, seeing a city engulfed in flames, the Bodhisattva says, "If I have been prophesied as non-retrogressive, then by this truth and truthful words, may this fire be extinguished!" Like this, through the blessing of truth, the power to pacify the pile of flames is achieved, this should be understood as a sign of being prophesied as non-retrogressive. In the human world, for various kinds of demonic possessions and many diseases, with a compassionate heart wishing to benefit and save from suffering, by speaking truthful words etc., through the blessing of truth, they are pacified. However, one does not become complacent because of this, thinking that one is capable, or generate arrogance thinking that one is particularly superior.
