ra etc. is one verse. Just as without a sprout, it is impossible for a tree to grow in the world, how can there be branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits on a tree that does not exist? There will be none. Similarly, if there is no sprout-like bodhicitta, both ultimate and conventional, taught by the mother of the Victorious Ones, then the Victorious One, like a tree, will not appear in the world. If that does not exist, then how can Indra, Brahma, and the Hearers appear, like the fruits, branches, and leaves of the Dharma taught by that Buddha? Because there is no cause. Secondly, there are two examples: the example of following, symbolized by the sun, and the example of reversing, symbolized by the dragon king. First, the circle of the sun etc. is one verse. Just as when the circle of the sun radiates its net of light in the ten directions, sentient beings strive to perform various actions, so too, when wise people generate the aspiring and entering mind for the sake of attaining the wisdom of the Victorious One's Prajnaparamita, the all-knowing wisdom, then the fruit, the unsurpassed wisdom of the Victorious One, will arise from that. That very wisdom, by seeing all knowable things without error, sends forth rays of Dharma that aim at those to be tamed, and thus sentient beings become endowed with the qualities of temporary and ultimate virtues. Secondly, for example, if the warm sea etc. is two verses. For example, if there is no lord of dragons in the warm sea, then how can the rivers that arise from the power of that dragon flow in this Jambudvipa? They will not flow. If there are no rivers, then because there is no moisture, flowers and fruits will not grow. Furthermore, the various shapes of precious jewels will also disappear from the great oceans that arise from the meeting of water and mother. Similarly, if in this world there is no union of the two bodhicittas, like the lord of dragons, which has the essence of emptiness and compassion, then the wisdom of the Sugatas, which increases the seed of enlightenment, etc., like the continuous flow of rivers, this world

Where do all these things come from? They cannot arise. If there is no such thing as a stream of wisdom, then through the Dharma taught by it, those to be tamed will not be able to accomplish and increase the flower-like virtues that become the cause of higher realms and definite goodness through hearing and so on. If there is none of that, then there will be none of its fruit, the three Bodhis. Like an ocean filled with jewels, the immeasurable qualities of the Buddha, such as strength, will also cease to exist. Therefore, if one possesses the precious Bodhicitta, which has emptiness and compassion as its core and is indivisible into two truths, then all the qualities of the path and the fruit will follow. If it is absent, everything else will be reversed, so this alone is the root of all white Dharma. Fourth, in order to generate the nature of Prajnaparamita in one's own mindstream, there are two practices: post-meditation and meditative absorption. First, there are three causes for increasing merit: rejoicing; the cause of not wasting: dedication; and the cause of increasing more and more: aspiration. First, there are two: explaining the benefits of a Bodhisattva's rejoicing, and jointly explaining the basis of rejoicing and dedication. First, there are two: example and meaning. First, the verse: 'In this world,' etc. In this realm of the world, all the light-emitting sources, such as stars and lamps, and creatures such as fireflies and lantern bearers, in order to illuminate all directions, the light of their respective bodies and substances gathered together, are not as supreme as the single ray of the sun. All other light-emitting groups cannot compete with its clarity and extent. Second, the verse: 'The assembly of Hearers,' etc. Just as the metaphor mentioned above, the accumulation of the three objects of merit, such as generosity, discipline, meditation, etc., by the assembly of Hearers, is not comparable to the single moment of a Bodhisattva's mind of rejoicing. The accumulation of merit of the assembly of Hearers cannot compare, because no matter how great the object of virtue of the Hearers is, their object and aspect are narrow, and they have impure stains of thought and lack skillful means.
