In order to accomplish the ultimate instantaneous yoga, one meditates. That is to say, even in the case of the complete yoga, one meditates on the complete aspects of the three wisdoms. However, it is not necessary to meditate in a certain order within a single whole. There are also those who emphasize and meditate on each aspect, such as the aspect of impermanence. Here, it refers to meditating completely within the practice of a single whole. That is, in the gradual stage, one grasps with the thirteen teachings and meditates in a certain order within a single whole. The so-called certain order is for the sake of making it difficult to distinguish all the differences when it is uncertain. Regarding this, the sutra says: "The Bhagavan, for the nature of all that is without essence, the great Bodhisattva gradually practices, gradually learns, and gradually exerts himself," and so on. Regarding this, the nature of the path is that the six perfections from generosity to wisdom are entered into with perfect yoga. As the basis for making the path special, with perfect intention, one does not separate from the six recollections of the Buddha and so on. As that which purifies the path, all dharmas are of one taste in the nature of non-substantiality. The way to gradually or sequentially learn the path is to make the action habitual. That is, there is no remembrance of the Buddhas and so on in the ultimate sense, but they are entered into in the conventional sense of remembrance. The latter three recollections are: the basis is discipline, the favorable condition is generosity, and the noble ones born as gods with power are remembered. Discipline and generosity are actual in the case of the six perfections, and in the case of recollection, they are considered from the aspect of the result, so they are not repeated. The gods, power, and the Three Jewels are not repeated from the aspect of the basis, so the wise ones think. Regarding this, the one hundred and seventy-three aspects of the three wisdoms gather together all the aspects of the ground, path, and result, but merely appearing in the mind in a single whole is not an uncommon way of gradual meditation, but it is only a long yoga. Moreover, even if the three aspects of the ground, path, and result are meditated on as unborn, in reality all dharmas are gathered together, but that alone cannot be considered gradual. So, what is gradual? In the presence of those who have dualistic grasping, the Dharma is one.

In order to dispel the notion that if one only practices one dharma, one cannot engage in other dharmas. Because even a single act like generosity encompasses other perfections. Therefore, how can the special practice of indivisible means and wisdom, and all uncontaminated dharmas, be gathered together? Just as mentioned before, one should understand this by eliminating wrong views when combining them. Then, in the post-meditation state, practice with a definite order or with separate focus. Even in a single act of generosity, practice without attachment, in a way that fully encompasses all the perfections. In the state of meditative equipoise, through familiarizing oneself with the suchness in which all dharmas are of one taste, even on a single practice, one can gradually guide and manifest all practices represented by the three wisdoms and the one hundred and three aspects. The experience and certainty of this special key point will increase more and more, which is called "gradual." Even on a single dharma, one can discern what to adopt and abandon with the special wisdom that understands all the bases, paths, and results. This special way of meditation is that each element of the path of practice possesses the six perfections, so that all aspects of the path are fully contained within it. Moreover, the Three Jewels, which are the support of meditation, and the three objects of accumulating merit, will continuously increase and not decline. Since one realizes that all dharmas are without difference due to their nature of non-inherent existence, one abandons dualistic grasping. Therefore, even a single practice can cut through the superimpositions on the basis, attain the correct path, and make the distinctions between the result (form body and dharma body) increasingly clear, thus increasing without end. In essence, this is the way to practice the emptiness that is fully endowed with all aspects of wisdom, through the power of the equality of the Perfection of Wisdom. That is to say, if one can meditate from a single mind to the ultimate state of perfect clarity, then the degree of accomplishment is instantaneous. Gradual guidance is the stage of gradualness. In the Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra, Simhabhadra believes that the single sentence, "In order to proclaim the lion's roar, one should follow the Perfection of Wisdom," shows the gradualness. Shantipa believes that the gradualness is shown by three sutra verses, such as "All dharmas are without attachment, therefore it is the Perfection of Wisdom."
