These are good vessels for the Dharma of Secret Mantra. For individuals who have definitely become vessels, If they know it is beneficial but do not teach out of stinginess, They will be far from the mind of enlightenment and the vows of mantra, And will be reproached by the Buddhas. Although the Guru does not desire to accumulate wealth, If the disciple pleases them and makes a request, The Buddhas said that from such instructions, One will obtain the accomplishments of the teachings without needing to strive. Wise individuals who teach well and learn well, Accumulate clouds of wealth without effort. Fools who do not accept good teachings even when given, Always strive for wealth but are impoverished by wealth. To those who want to hear instructions without hardship, They deceive with gentle words, saying, 'You are intelligent, listen from the wise,' etc., And send them away. Do not proclaim even the sound of hail regarding secret matters. Even if taught, they do not generate thoughts of great virtue, If not taught, they become angry and quarrelsome, Pressuring like a debt, who would want to give instructions? Even if one does not possess wealth, There are other ways to please the Guru. If one knows the value of instructions, Who would dare to request with mere words? Nowadays, even if one requests profound instructions a hundred times, requests a thousand times, Without practicing oneself or spreading them to others, It seems they are satisfied with talk of having heard for many years and having obtained for many years, Beings who waste their lives fill this earth. If you listen, then examine its meaning with thought, If you do not examine, it is like a parrot reciting words. If you obtain instructions, then experience its meaning, If you do not take it, it is like having gold but dying of famine. Alas! These words with excellent meaning, Those who explain and listen to the words of instruction, Think well about what instructions are, Seek them, rely on them, and realize the key points. The meaning of 'instruction' is the word Upadesha (Tibetan: ཨུ་པ་དེ་ཤའི་, Sanskrit Devanagari: उपदेश, Sanskrit Romanization: upadeśa, Chinese literal meaning: teaching), Meaning 'near instruction,' it is not just the words of the scriptures, Its profound key point, Resides in the mouth of the oral transmission Guru. If one knows this, then the meaning to be practiced at that time, Can be easily understood and will definitely be accomplished without hardship, Whatever key points belong to the instructions, But there are great differences such as great meaning, small meaning, profound, etc.

In these degenerate times, groups of evil people Hide their teachers and exalt their own importance. They steal instructions, alter teachings with self-made additions, Or claim to have attained what they have not. Having received transmissions and instructions from inferiors, They conceal the source from superiors and do not mention the teacher's name. Forgetting kindness and speaking of the lama's faults, Is a cause for obtaining ruin in this life and the next. Unlike this, in short, those mixed with falsehood and deceit, Foolish, ignorant people who indulge in enjoyments, Even if they perform actions, they will not be accomplished, And even if they are slightly accomplished, the future will not be auspicious. Who is most kind to oneself? It is the lama. What kindness is there in great lineage, wealth, or fame? Therefore, holding the lama at the crown of one's head, And cherishing the instructions, accomplishments will arise. Without the transmission of the lineage, without instructions, This term, "I know it myself," Is not a statement to be made in the assembly of the wise, It is a contradictory sign because it is devoid of the instructions of the holy ones. Even if the wise, through their own intelligence and karma, Obtain the good meaning of the instructions, They should recognize it as the compassion of the deities and lamas, And speak well of it as having arisen from the kindness of the lineage. Speaking the truth is the one ornament of the earth, Falsehood and deceit are the source of faults. Since the earth is filled with such false and deceitful people, One should definitely abandon the desire to speak of instructions. In reality, They show an attitude of faith through deception and pretense. Having obtained instructions, they abandon the lama, And say that it is not the kindness of anyone but their own. Such fools cut off their own share of accomplishments. Those who are deceitful and ungrateful, The hosts of glorious protectors abandon and despise. Acting arrogantly, they break the command of the teachings, And will experience much suffering and ruin. Those who are without pretense, honest, and grateful, The deities and glorious protectors care for like children. The accomplishments they achieve themselves are without increase or decrease, And from beginning to end, all will be auspicious and well. Even if well taught, those who are ungrateful, Evil people are thieves of instructions. Still, saying, "What is there to hide in this?" They despise the lama and the instructions. What need is there to speak of extremely rare instructions? Even if everyone knows it and it is not of great importance, A virtuous person will respect the lama from whom they received the instructions, And the meaning of the instructions. They will not commit the fault of divulging secrets.

Yes, to those who hold rough teachings of oral instructions, it's like pouring a lion's milk into a bad vessel. If given, the teachings will become fruitless. Even if the entire earth is filled with precious gold, it's insignificant compared to the value of a profound instruction. To the foolish who desire oral instructions without merit, even if given, it won't be valued and will be of no benefit. Oral instructions are the means to easily accomplish desires, and if their meaning is practiced, it will be of great benefit. If you think about it, even a single oral instruction cannot be measured by the value of worldly wealth. Even the words that reveal profound oral instructions, what's the use if they cannot be uttered from the mouth? Even if spoken, the foolish who don't practice their meaning won't appreciate the wonder of oral instructions. Those who accomplish through practicing oral instructions, will repay the kindness of the lama and the teachings with firm faith and respect. They value oral instructions and request them with all kinds of offerings. The foolish who don't rely on meaning but only rely on words, don't understand the value of profound oral instructions, so they freely give hundreds and thousands of profound teachings, but only care about insignificant worldly things. Therefore, for those who haven't become vessels, who will bear the importance of giving them the transmission? Isn't it possible to survive without speaking? Pouring gold dust into water is extremely foolish. Without respect, the interdependent origination of benefit will go wrong. If wisdom declines, the meaning of what is said cannot be understood. If the pursuit is small, the depths of the mind cannot be found. If you speak to someone who cannot keep secrets, the secret will be revealed. Therefore, through the four qualities that are the opposite of this, the wealthy person, possessing altruistic intention, realizing the lama's mind, becoming the guardian of secrets, gives the transmission without concealment, sealed with a seal. Even then, starting from the meaning of what is said, even if facing life-threatening situations, they won't act contrary to it, and relying on skillful means of not revealing the lineage of profound teachings, the world will become virtuous. Like the lama's teachings, practice with respect, hide the oral instructions, perfectly accomplish the truth, and like a good fruit, it will flourish and prosper. Others will also know the greatness of oral instructions. Those who are meaningless, only saying "I know," revealing oral instructions to others in a boastful way, like a fruit pecked by a bird, will decline themselves, and the radiance of the teachings won't appear. If everyone knows, who will consider you wise? On the island of gold, gold itself is precious.
