In any phenomenon of cause and effect, there is not a single true existence. Since that one does not exist, the many created by it also do not exist. However, in many dharmas, based on reasons such as similarity of kind, they are nominally established as one; and in one dharma, they are nominally established as many due to distinctions of differences. Merely establishing the terminology of cause and effect, if analyzed, none of the four possibilities are established, therefore, one should understand that all phenomena are unbearable to examine, like a dream. Regarding this, there are those who consider the analysis of both cause and effect, the four possibilities of arising and ceasing, as one of the five reasons. Although there is no contradiction in explaining it that way, I think it is reasonable to include this in the category of analyzing the cause and make it four reasons. There are also other different logical approaches to analyzing the three aspects of cause and effect. For example, if divided by the three times, the result does not arise because the past has ceased, it does not arise because the future has not arisen, and there is no arising for the present because it is already established, and so on. Furthermore, what arises, is it the result that is existent, non-existent, both, or neither? If it is thought that something existent arises, it is not reasonable, because what exists has already established its own nature, so there is no need for the cause to produce it, just like something that is already ripe. If what exists still needs to be produced, it will become endless. What does not exist cannot be produced, like a rabbit's horn. If it is thought that what was previously non-existent is newly made existent by the cause, then non-existence and existence are mutually exclusive, so they are contradictory. In the true meaning of phenomena, there is nothing that was previously non-existent and later becomes existent. However, based on the cause, the result appears, and the two, what did not appear before and what appears now, are connected in the mind, and it is merely nominally established that what was previously non-existent arises. Similarly, what was previously existent and later becomes non-existent is also nominally established by combining the past and the future. Phenomena are merely appearances due to dependent origination, and there is no such thing as existence changing to non-existence, or non-existence changing to existence. Arising and ceasing, abiding and not abiding, self and no-self, etc., are also the same as this. Since all are merely appearances and empty of nature, in the true meaning, no dharma undergoes any transformation, and no distinctions such as coming and going, arising and ceasing, increasing and decreasing, etc., can be found. If the result does not arise in either existence or non-existence, then from those two...
