Since there is not even a little bit of establishment as other entities apart from the limbs, therefore, if one examines in seven ways like that, even the chariot itself, which possesses limbs, cannot be pointed out. However, just as it exists merely by being designated in dependence on its own limbs, likewise, one should know that I am also designated in dependence on the aggregates, and if one examines in seven ways, it cannot be established. Thus, it is also said in the sutra: 'The self is called the mind of Mara, you are one who has become a view, these aggregates are empty, there is no sentient being in them. Just as on the collection of limbs, depending on them, one speaks of a chariot, likewise, depending on the aggregates, conventionally one speaks of a sentient being.' As it is said. If one thinks that even though the self of a person is refuted by reasoning, the phenomena such as form, etc., which are the basis of its designation, are directly perceived, therefore the nature of the phenomena is established, then like this, the appearance of form, etc., is unfailing, it is merely appearing from the power of dependent arising. If one examines this appearance with wisdom, then there is nothing that is established as the nature of that and that, just like images, dreams, illusions, etc. How is that? Examining the cause is the diamond sliver, examining the result is existence and non-existence, arising and ceasing, examining the nature is being apart from one and many, examining everything is determined by the four ways of the great reason of dependent arising. Like this, there is no denying that the result appears from the collection of causes and conditions, therefore, in the tenets of all inner Buddhists, although they accept that it appears by the power of dependent arising, however, if they make the basis of dependent arising, such as the two subtle particles, or the alaya consciousness of other-power, as truly established, and on that basis of emptiness, the self of a person or the non-affirming emptiness like the emptiness of phenomena imputed by thought, is accepted by the realists of their own school. And the Madhyamikas who speak of no self-nature think that all phenomena such as aggregates, etc., appear while their own self-nature is not established, therefore, examining with the wisdom of ultimate truth, there is nothing that is established as bearable to be examined, and they think that it is emptiness that is refuted. However, such emptiness and the appearance of dependent arising, the two are not contradictory by the nature of things, and appear as the same meaning, this is the view of Nagarjuna, the great Madhyamika of union of appearance and emptiness.

It is the ultimate intention of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Regarding such meaning, although there are different views on the ways of entering gradually and simultaneously, and the ways of acknowledging terms, etc., here, the general points of Madhyamaka will be explained. That is, merely in name, the effect arises from the cause, but when examined in ultimate truth, arising is not established. If arising can be analyzed by reason, then it must arise in one of the four extremes: self, other, both, or neither, causeless, but that is not reasonable. Why? Self-arising is unreasonable, because it is meaningless for something already established as its own nature to arise again, just as a child who has already been born cannot be born again. If it arises again, then something like a seed will also arise endlessly, and the gradual changes in different stages such as sprouts and trunks will disappear. If the Samkhyas want to assert self-arising, they would say that just as various forms such as vases arise from one nature of clay, seeds etc. are also one nature, but they abandon the form of the seed and transform into the form of the sprout. If so, then the stages of seeds and sprouts etc., whether they exist now or not, and their colors and shapes etc. are different, but if they are considered the same, then fire and water, good and evil etc. will all become the same, which would cause very serious faults. If you think that seeds and sprouts etc. are the same continuum, so they are different from fire and water etc., then the word continuum is just a designation for similar momentary dharmas that are uninterrupted, and it is not established in reality. Not only in treatises, but worldly people also see the effect manifest after the cause ceases, so they do not accept that cause and effect are one, therefore self-arising does not exist in either of the two truths. If it is said that self-arising is unreasonable, but just as a mother gives birth to a child, and a seed gives rise to a sprout, things are only born from others, then there is a designation of otherness on cause and effect, but this is not other-arising established by reason. If cause and effect are established as other in nature, then the effect does not need to depend on the cause, because both have equal power. Something that already exists does not need to arise from another, just as two people who have already been born do not need to depend on each other. If
