It is the cause of suffering. Regarding this, the attachment of the desire realm is called desire attachment, and the attachment of the upper two realms is called existence attachment, and there are also two such statements. Anger is constantly tormenting sentient beings, suffering, and the cause of suffering, not abiding in happiness, and is the basis of misdeeds. Pride is the appearance of being arrogant in mind based on the view of the perishable, disrespectful to others, and the basis of the arising of suffering, and it has seven classifications. Doubt is hesitation about the meaning of truth, and has the function of not entering the side of virtue. All afflictive views are views, and are the basis of all wrong views. Thus, there are six root afflictions. Views are divided into five types: the view of the perishable is to view the five aggregates of grasping as self and what belongs to self, and is the basis of other views. Extreme views are to grasp the self or the five aggregates as permanent or impermanent, and have the function of obstructing liberation from the Middle Way. Wrong views are to view the meaning of the existence of karma, cause and effect, etc. as non-existent, and have the function of cutting off the roots of virtue. The view of holding views as supreme is to view the above three wrong views and the five aggregates of grasping as the place of views as supreme and sacred, and is the attachment to wrong views. The view of holding precepts and vows as supreme is to view precepts and vows that are not liberation and asceticism and their basis, the five aggregates, as liberation and definite departure, and has the function of making effort fruitless. These two kinds of holding as supreme represent the perverse wrong views on the nature of things, and all attachments to wrong paths that are not methods of liberation. All five of these views are wisdom-like afflictions. Among the ten root afflictions of the five views and the five non-views, the two kinds of holding as supreme and the four of wrong views and doubt are completely imputed, and the remaining six have both completely imputed and innate. Among the twenty near afflictions, wrath is the increase of anger, and actually inflicts harm such as beating. Holding grudges is part of anger, not giving up the idea of harm, and being unbearable. Annoyance is

Harsh speech is caused by anger and resentment, making one speak harshly due to intolerance. Harm is a part of anger, its function is to inflict various harms without compassion. Jealousy is a part of anger, clinging to one's own gains and respect, unable to bear the perfections of others, causing inner turmoil, unhappiness, and restlessness, and serving as a basis for wrongdoing. Deceit is clinging to gains and respect, concealing one's own faults, maintaining the continuation of evil, and a hypocritical mind is part of attachment, hatred, and ignorance, which cuts off the attainment of true teachings. Deception is for the sake of gains and respect, pretending to have qualities that one does not possess, deceiving others because it is not true, belonging to the part of delusion and attachment, being an accomplice of afflictions and near afflictions, and serving as a basis for practicing wrong livelihood. Shamelessness is making oneself the reason, not hesitating about sins, belonging to the part of the three poisons, and being an accomplice of afflictions and near afflictions. Immodesty is making others the reason, engaging in non-virtuous aspects without hesitation, belonging to the part of the three poisons, and being an accomplice of all afflictions. Concealment is part of ignorance and attachment, not accepting good advice, wanting to hide one's own faults, and serving as a basis for regret and instability. Stinginess is caused by greed, clinging tightly to possessions such as wealth, and is the reason for not giving alms. Pride is being happy and attached to any of the contaminated perfections that one has, such as being free from illness and youth, and being self-satisfied (meaning arrogance), and serving as a basis for afflictions and near afflictions. Disbelief is part of ignorance, not believing in true things and virtuous Dharma, and serving as a basis for laziness. Laziness is being attached to bad actions such as the pleasure of sleeping, laziness, etc., not liking or striving for virtuous aspects, making them slack, and being the opposite of diligence. Carelessness is caused by the three poisons and laziness, not being careful about adopting and abandoning good and evil, not taking it seriously, being the opposite of carefulness, and having the function of increasing non-virtue and decreasing virtue. Forgetfulness is
