Because it is difficult to understand thoroughly with just a general overview, those with wisdom should examine it carefully and be sure to grasp the special key points! Third, conclusion. Because the dharma that the opponent himself accepts is what is to be established, therefore, if its basis is harmed, it is a fault of the proposition. Therefore, the word "self-basis" indicates that it is not necessary to examine whether the basis that is not merely the self-basis, or the basis of other established dharmas, is harmed. For example, in the definition of a characteristic, the word "self" is used to indicate that harming other dharmas that the opponent himself does not accept does not harm the characteristic. Similarly, in the case of exclusion, the implication of the word "one's own basis" is used to express that even if other bases that are not the basis of the dharma to be established in the present case are harmed, it is not an exclusion. Second, it is shown that the non-establishment of special cases, etc., is not a fault of exclusion on the part of the subject. If the Vaisheshika school proposes to the Buddhist that "the self pervades everywhere," then in the eyes of the Buddhist, the special case or the basis, the self, is not established. If the Buddhist says to the Samkhya school that "sound is impermanent," then in the eyes of the Samkhya school, although sound is established, the "destruction" that is stated as its special characteristic is not established. If the Vaisheshika school says that "the self is the cause of aggregation," then in the eyes of the Buddhist, neither the special case nor the special characteristic is established. Therefore, the Joyful Author says that these are also faults of the subject. But why is it not stated that way in the Compendium? Because such a situation is not a fault of the subject. Because the faults of the non-establishment of the reason, etc., will all harm the establishment of the subject itself, that is, the subject cannot be established, so it will become like that. Even in that case, only what is related to the proposition itself, without relying on the reason, is a fault of the subject itself. Any fault that depends on the subsequent part of the reason is a fault related to the reason itself. As stated above, therefore, merely the basis, and the special characteristic and both included by the word "etc.," not being established in the eyes of the opponent is not a fault of the subject. For example, if the proposition is stated as "sound is impermanent because it is measurable," then this is like a similar reason.

That sign, at that time, promises that sound is impermanent, because it is not accomplished, so it seems to harm the promise, but just like the promise itself has no defects. Then, if sound is promised to be permanent, how can it be eliminated? The permanence of sound is not eliminated merely because it is not established in the eyes of Buddhists, but it is not established in the eyes of those who are determined by the reasoning of real power, and just like it is not established, it is also eliminated by the power of things. Until it is determined by reasoning, there is no elimination, because it can be used as the basis for inference. Similarly, it should also be understood for what is established by subsequent inference. Then, if I (Pudgala) as the subject of dharma, exist everywhere, when such a promise is made, since I (Pudgala) is not proven by valid cognition, does the elimination by subsequent inference also apply to this? The meaning of the word I (Pudgala) alone is established for anyone, so merely saying this word has no meaning of elimination. If the distinction of it, permanence, agent, and pervasiveness, etc., is promised, then these have already been eliminated by valid cognition, and if a reason for negation or establishment is proposed, then this sign is not within the scope of ability, so it is eliminated. However, the Vaisheshika school, etc., have no elimination in their own view, so when they propose a reason for establishment in the eyes of Buddhists, merely promising does not become a fault, but when a reason for establishment is proposed, it is impossible to have the three aspects, so only this fault can be pointed out. Similarly, sound is impermanent, which has already been proven by valid cognition, when someone like Dharmakirti establishes that sound is impermanent by the sign of being made in the eyes of the Samkhya school, there is no establishment or elimination in the eyes of the Samkhya school's valid cognition, because in attachment's view, the establishment of permanence is not established by valid cognition, and like Buddhists, there is also no elimination by valid cognition, so for this, the scope of application of the ability of newly establishing by being made is applicable. Therefore, both establishment and elimination are by valid cognition, otherwise merely promising by attachment has no meaning of establishment and elimination. Second, the way to represent by the example of elimination. In the Sutra, the other three are mentioned incidentally. Here, only one of them is said. First, in the commentary of the Abhidharmasamuccaya, as examples of the four eliminations: sound cannot be heard, a pot is permanent, valid cognition does not establish measurable things, the one with a rabbit is not the moon, these four examples are said. These only indicate the gateway of eliminating the self-nature of dharma.
