It is impossible to ascertain that it arises by this, by means of valid cognition. If that is the case, then all internal minds also have the characteristic of being apprehended, therefore, the previous consciousness that is about to transfer to an object also abides as having the characteristic of being apprehended, and if there is not even a slight change, then for what reason does this not generate self-grasping consciousness? It cannot be established. Therefore, if the previous consciousness is apprehended, then the subsequent consciousness that is the self-apprehender is the immediate cause, and because it becomes something to be experienced, it must be certain that the previous consciousness of one's own continuum becomes the nature of the meaning of what is apprehended. For external objects, it is not necessary to be the immediate cause of being the meaning of what is apprehended. And for internal consciousness, for the experience of other consciousnesses that are not simultaneous, because it is not the immediate cause, there is no way to experience it. Moreover, just the immediate cause, such as the consciousness arising from meditative absorption, the Vaibhashikas assert that it arises from the immediate cause of the form sense faculty, therefore, it alone does not become the nature of what is apprehended. Just experience, because knowing the minds of others is not certain, therefore, the combination of experience and immediate cause, there is no other way than that one's own internal consciousness is the nature of what is apprehended, and it is established according to their system. Second, refuting and answering objections. Non-apprehended is refuted by being uncertain with apprehended. Apprehended is refuted by being uncertain with non-apprehended. First, the meaning of explaining the nature of what is apprehended, both internal and external, in that way is unreasonable, because ordinary people also apprehend what is not to be apprehended, such as subtle particles, pure form sense faculties, and external objects that are annihilated and at the end of an eon, also become the meaning of what is apprehended by yogis, and also because they can see the minds of others. If one thinks in this way, then for external objects such as forms that are apprehended, and for one's own internal consciousness, this analysis of whether or not it has the nature of being apprehended is in relation to the direct perception of impure people with ordinary minds, and examining whether or not it becomes their object, and it is said to be the meaning of what is apprehended for what becomes the object, but it is not done from the perspective of yogis, because the realization of yogis who are able to see the meaning of objects that transcend the senses and whose realm of activity is pure is inconceivable to ordinary people, so it is impossible to know that their way of seeing is like this, because it transcends one's own realm of activity, just as a blind person examines the realm of activity of a sighted person.

As mentioned above. Secondly, there are cases where something that was previously an object of apprehension becomes a non-object of apprehension later. For example, what is near becomes far, what is coarse becomes subtle, or what is separated by an obscuration and lasts for a long time. One might think that this is because forms and other things have become subtle or obscured in nature. Even if something that was previously manifestly apprehended by sensory consciousness may become a non-object of apprehension later. However, for the consciousness that apprehends forms and other things, what previously non-existent difference is newly born later, which leads to it no longer being an object of apprehension? Because for indivisible consciousness, there is no difference such as coarse or subtle. Moreover, it always only arises in the final moment, so other differences of different coarseness and subtlety are unreasonable. If the later consciousness and the middle are not separated by other things and continue to arise, then since it is always in the same state, there is no difference between near and far, so there is no reason why it would no longer be an object of apprehension. Third, summarize the main points. As mentioned above, if one's own previous thought is apprehended by another later thought, then only the immediately preceding cause of mind can be continuously apprehended. Therefore, abandoning it, one will never be able to realize other things. Second, establish the established view: Others believe that it is unreasonable that there is no difference between the ability to apprehend and the ability to closely obtain on the object of apprehension, because things have many different abilities. This idea is wrong. According to my own view, although there is no existence of multiple or single abilities that are different from the entity arising from the capable thing, the causal things, by their own nature or law, multiple causes produce one effect, or one cause also produces multiple effects, which has been said before, this is the power of dependent origination. If one thing does not have multiple different abilities, then multiple different effects will not arise from one cause. This is not the case. Some closely obtained things, such as the previous and subsequent moments, seem to be one effect arising from one cause. Considering this, people will say that one cause produces one effect. All effects arise from the collection of their respective numerous causes and conditions, rather than from an indivisible single cause.
