Because there are no parts. The variegated butterfly painted in a picture and the variegated colors of a real butterfly, etc., appear in various ways, but there seems to be no difference. If it is said that it appears that way because it possesses different kinds of particles, then possessing is a quality, and because there is no form for quality, it does not appear in various ways from possessing. What is seen by the eye is form, and you yourself assert that form is a distinction of quality. Therefore, if the whole with parts does not exist as a substance, then it is meaningless to assert that the variegated does not appear as one. If the appearance of difference is not established, then the variegated itself will not be established, because it is never possible to call a single color or no color variegated. If it is said that it is based only on a close approximation to an artificial variegated color because it is similar to the existing variegated color with parts, then it is not an imputation either, because each color of both artificial and non-artificial is not multiple. Therefore, if the whole with parts called variegated is never established as different, then what is real and what is imputed, because there is no difference. Second, if when seeing variegated colors, blue, yellow, etc., are grasped sequentially, and later the mind mixes them into one variety and grasps them, then that is not the case, because according to you, one mind never grasps multiple objects, so even after grasping them separately, it is impossible for one mind to grasp multiple objects. If there is a mind that grasps in a way that appears clearly all at once, then the position of not grasping multiple things all at once will be abandoned. Third, the whole called "having parts" does not appear as one, and there is a simultaneous vision of multiple parts without interruption. Therefore, for one mind, there is an appearance of multiple objects. Because when seeing variegated colors, like the blue within it, for one object, the thought arises that "it is blue," and the clear vision of unmixed white, etc., exists without interruption. Therefore, it is also established that sense consciousness is without conceptualization. Second, in the case of establishing multiple objects from the appearance of variegated colors, there is debate and refutation. One consciousness does not appear as multiple. Presenting the debate and the answer, two parts. First, for external objects that appear as multiple, if it is said that it is not reasonable to be one, then on the surface of non-examination.

Now, consider this: how is it that a single mind appears in various forms, such as blue and so on? Because one and many are contradictory, which is not permissible for any entity. If this is not permissible for objects, it is not permissible for knowledge either; if it is permissible for knowledge, it should also be permissible for objects. To this, the second point is: manifoldness is not established in ultimate truth, but manifoldness is not contradictory in conventional truth. The first point includes: briefly stating and elaborating. First, since we hold that in ultimate truth, knowledge is not a single entity with manifold forms, that fault does not exist. However things or objects appear, when we carefully consider their mode of establishment with reason, they are merely appearances and are far from being true forms. As all the perfectly accomplished wise Buddhas with lineages have said, this comes from the power of the entity's own state. Therefore, in the true sense, anything that appears as manifold cannot withstand analysis, so we do not accept any mind or object that has become the nature of manifold oneness. If a single mind has manifold appearances, what would happen? If that were the case, then objects with manifold forms would also be established, which is the opponent's thought. Even though that mind appears as manifold due to being tainted by dualistic appearances, we hold that it will not be established as manifold. Therefore, merely because the mind has manifold appearances, objects will not be established. If one believes that the objects that appear to the mind are established here in their appearing nature, then what can I refute? Because it is impossible to refute what is established by the power of objects. This implies that if something does not appear, what can I refute, like the son of a barren woman and so on. Therefore, for something that appears but is not established as such, a refutation of untruth applies, because it is an illusion. As it is said in "Distinguishing Dharma and Dharmata": From non-appearances, whichever one, if it does not exist, then illusion and non-illusion, likewise, complete affliction and complete purification, are unreasonable. As it is said. Although different commentaries have many different ways of explaining this verse, here it is explained according to the intention of the two minds. Second, detailed explanation: establishing emptiness without difference, and refuting disputes about it. First: the grasped
