If the nature of (consciousness) is the same swiftness, then how is it that in the objects of consciousness, some appear as non-sequential and instantaneous, while others appear as sequential? What causes this difference? If it is thought that the cause of instantaneous appearance is swiftness, then this swiftness exists for all objects. Therefore, for the swift consciousness that grasps all things, this would lead to the consequence that all things appear instantaneously. Second, to establish that things themselves are diverse from variegation (khra). This is to eliminate the debate about this. First, if it is one, then variegation should not appear. The appearance of variegation is to establish diversity. First, if many do not appear at the same time, then how can the variegated butterfly, the peacock's feathers, the variegated cloth, and so on, many different shapes and colors, appear? The appearance of variegation will be interrupted. Second, to establish through the fact that things are diverse. To establish through the fact that consciousness appears in various ways. First, to state the harm of various things being one. In response to this, to refute the difference between artificial and non-artificial. First, if it is thought that what is seen, such as the variegated butterfly, is not the simultaneous appearance of many, but because the many colors are part of the substance of one variegation, so it is merely the appearance of one substance of variegation, then the brilliance of the peacock's feathers, even more than the statement that it does not hold many and contradicts direct perception, even more so, to say that many are one is truly amazing, because they tolerate the same basis for the contradiction between diversity and unity. Therefore, whatever appears as diverse is not of a single nature. For example, the appearance of various jewels such as rubies, crystals, lapis lazuli, pearls, etc., piled together in a heap. Second, if it is thought that the heap of jewels is not one because the different kinds make it possible to distinguish the individual entities of the components, but the colors of the unadorned variegated butterfly and the peacock's feathers, etc., are one entity of the components, so they cannot be distinguished, therefore they are one. Then, distinguishing blue, yellow, etc., like this, is the same for the unadorned variegated butterfly and the artificial variegated cloth, etc. If they exist without being mixed, then saying that they cannot be distinguished is meaningless. If it is said that for the variegation of the butterfly, etc., it is possible to clearly see the blue, yellow, etc., of the component parts, but it is not possible to distinguish the variegation itself as a whole,

Now, if you find it strange to see that the variegated thing with parts, from which one can distinguish blue and other parts, cannot be distinguished from other variegated things, it would be like seeing a beautiful and lovely son of a prostitute. If these artificial variegated things do not have parts, so they are apprehended sequentially, while the natural variegated things have parts, so they are apprehended simultaneously, then, whether artificial or natural, whether considered the same or different, when apprehending a variegated thing with various colors, it is apprehended simultaneously, and seeing different aspects such as blue is the same, because from the perspective of arising undifferentiated cognition, one artificial variegated thing is sequentially apprehended and has many different things, while one natural variegated thing is not sequentially apprehended in time and has no different things, but is one, how can this be established? There is no valid cognition whatsoever. Second, establishing by the mind's appearance of various things. Establishing the sign and eliminating the uncertain. Therefore, even without conceptualization, it can be established. First, establishing the sign: When seeing a variegated thing, the cognitions that apprehend it are also of the nature of having various aspects, so their objects are also not one, but become of the nature of various things. If various appearances arise in the mind, it is not a reason for the mind to establish external objects as different, then, by what reason is it established that objects such as pillars and vases are different? Even if different appearances arise in the mind, it cannot be established by that, so no different dharma can be established. Second, eliminating the uncertainty of that sign: Refuting that there is another cause for appearing as many. Refuting that appearing as many is mistaken. First, it is acceptable that many appearances arise in the mind, but there are not many things, because it is the only substance with parts. Appearing as many is mistaken, like when there is no second moon, but it appears as two. Without a variegated thing with parts, there are no parts themselves, like uncollected blue and so on. Therefore, if it is said that it appears as variegated because there are parts, then, since it has been promised that different kinds of particles do not create a substance with parts, it follows that various appearances do not arise in the mind of artificial variegated paintings and so on, because there are no parts on them.
