Now, it is merely nominally established as a constant phenomenon, that is, at the time of the result, the extinction of the seed is nominally established as the agent, or at the time of the seed, the non-sprouting of the sprout is nominally established as the object. At the time of examination, even if it is not established as an agent, from the terminology of establishment and designation, it appears that the act of measuring the measurable and knowing is performed in this way. Because the agent and the act are established there, the agent who is the same as the meaning is valid. It is not contradictory to say that the act of understanding the meaning is the result. For example, the result arises from the same nature as its own causes, so it is merely established as the result itself. However, the result does not actually have the act of holding the form of the cause, but in the world, if it is said that the result holds the form of the cause, it is like having it, and there is no fault in saying such a term. For example, when it is said that the son holds the form of the father, the object to be done is the form of the father, the agent is the son, and the act of holding is not different from the three now, but it is nominally established as such. Second, refuting other systems. General refutation and specific refutation. First, it is not reasonable for other phenomena other than those that are the same as the meaning to be valid, and it is not reasonable for validity and result to be different entities. Therefore, those who are learned consider that the consciousness of observing or seeing the meaning is the validity that distinguishes, and because it arises from it, understanding universals, etc., is considered the result of validity. The Vaiśeṣika school considers that the colored sense faculty is validity, and the understanding of form, etc., that arises from it is the result of validity. The Cārvāka school considers that the connection or encounter of the sense faculty and the object is validity, and the understanding of form, etc., that arises from it is the result of validity. Furthermore, those who consider that the mind that grasps the distinctions of universals and qualities, etc., is validity, and the grasping of substances with distinctions that are produced by it is the result of validity, have not understood the characteristics of validity. Like this, the so-called seeing the meaning, as well as the connection of the sense faculty and the object, and the consciousness of distinction, these are the function or result of validity, and the determination is to understand the meaning, that is, they consider that there is a sequence. Therefore, they consider that seeing, etc., does not understand the meaning at its own time, so whatever does not understand the measurable is not reasonably validity, because it does not determine anything about the measurable, so it cannot be a measure, and in the end it will become like the consciousness of an ordinary person.

If it is thought that even if the object is not recognized at that time, it can be recognized through these causes, therefore it is reasonable to be a valid cognition. However, it is not so, because all those that help in the activity of understanding the object to be measured, even if they are closely connected for the sake of that activity, are merely causes and cannot accomplish the work of understanding the object. However, the wisdom that arises at the final stage of the collection of causes, which can truly distinguish the nature of that object, making it unconfused or distinct from other things, then, this is the proof of establishing whether that object exists or not, is or is not, or it is the excellent proof of accomplishing the work of understanding the object, that is, it is considered to be the correct proof. It is meaningless to admit that all these transmitted causes are valid cognitions that measure the object as it is. This is like eating rice to relieve hunger, but looking for the outer shell of the seed; lighting a butter lamp to dispel darkness, but investigating the source of oil and trees, etc. The second part includes: refuting that sense faculty is valid cognition; refuting that special consciousness is valid cognition; refuting that sense-object contact is valid cognition. Firstly, like this, the colored sense faculties are the common cause of all self-result consciousnesses. Therefore, for similar objects, there is the function of recognizing different objects, like this, the sense faculties do not have the function of valid cognition that measures objects. For example, the eye sense is only the common cause of producing all cognitions such as blue cognition and yellow cognition, and it itself does not have any ability to distinguish different objects. Someone might say: sense faculties are not without differences, when the sense faculty encounters different objects, that sense faculty is the tool for recognizing that object. Moreover, there are also differences in the clarity or unclearness of the sense faculties. If you say so, even if the sense faculties as the basis have differences, the sense faculty itself does not have the ability to distinguish objects. If one cannot distinguish different objects from similar objects, then, how can one explain the difference such as "this is blue, that is yellow"? Or how to determine "the valid cognition of this object is this"? There is no reason for this to be established. Therefore, if there is cognition of similar objects, one can distinguish the target, otherwise, even if one thinks for countless eons, one cannot establish the connection between valid cognition and its object, and in the end it will only be blind men touching an elephant. The rest of this reasoning also applies to considering seeing etc. as valid cognition.
