Any entity with properties that is distinct from all that is not itself is the nature of things, as previously stated. For such a thing, being distinct from any other thing, merely distinguishing it through conceptual sound is a thing with multiple essences. Thus, even for a single sound, there are the made and impermanent, as well as matter and other non-self parts. Distinguishing from the aspect of separation, merely through the nature of inference, various differences will appear, which are diverse on the level of sound concept. But in the mind without concepts, as the object of a single entity in the sensory realm, it merely measures appearance, rather than combining characteristics and attributes, holding multiple names for the same thing. The thing of its own time, arising from the power of not mixing place, time, and form, the occasional knowledge, mixed in that field of experience, the separation that becomes the object of sound concept, does not exist. Second, if seeing something like the moon, on the thing itself, isn't there the white that is separated from non-white, as well as the same roundness, and the rabbit mark, etc.? Why don't the senses see its separation? Even if there are many properties such as white on the thing itself, without distinguishing parts, the appearance of the thing's own characteristics experienced by the manifestation of the senses, what kind of appearance is it, is what sound cannot express. Because it becomes the essence of completely excluding all non-self things, the thing itself merely appears as such, and no distinction of distinguishing parts can express it as it is. Therefore, the knowledge arising from sound or the concept with separation as its object, and the nature of the manifestation knowledge with self-nature as its object are different, so the field of one does not appear on the other. Because the ways of appearing through clarity and unclearness, mixing and unmixing, multiple parts and non-multiple parts are different. Third, refuting the view that even one appears as different. Refuting the recognition that proves identity. First, if the consciousness of sound and the consciousness of the senses are both with the same thing as their object, but because the dependent mental faculty and eye faculty, etc. are diverse, changes such as clarity and unclearness will occur.

If it is said like that, according to that way, then how does it establish that the minds of the five sense consciousnesses, such as the ear, are also objects with different meanings such as sound? Even if all things are the same, they can be seen separately through the senses as the basis, which can be understood in meaning. Even if the two, cognition and sense consciousness, are born from different bases of mind, what is the reason that various phenomena such as clarity and unclearness appear on the same object that is taken as the object? It is unreasonable for the self-characteristic of things to appear in various ways from the self-nature of the object to the mind that measures it directly, just like two eyes without confusion measuring a blue flower. If it changes like a person with yellow eyes and a person without eye disease looking at a conch shell, then that is not an unconfused direct perception either. Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that one sees different things from one self-characteristic through the difference of the base. Because the experience of an unconfused mind sees different things, that is a different thing, like pillars, bottles, sounds, and shapes. Second, there is direct perception of the general characteristic, because there is recognition after directly seeing a cow. When one sees a white cow before, and later sees a red cow, even if the self-characteristics are different, one can recognize it because one has seen it before, which is because one has seen the general characteristic, otherwise there is no reason to recognize it. It is not certain that even if the self-characteristic seen by the sense consciousness is not truly realized, one can express words about the past, future, etc., and the conceptualizations of them can arise merely through intention. First, the arising of subsequent recognition conceptualizations of things such as cows from directly seeing the general characteristic is prohibited or refuted. Even if the general characteristic is not seen, one can distinguish similar things in the object of conceptualization as the same kind, just like thinking that past people are people. Therefore, since the seen and the object of conceptualization are not the same, distinguishing similar things as the same kind is not only through seeing. For those who think that when seeing things such as cows, there are common accompanying kinds and self-natures, etc., the expression of common agreement can be established, and the conceptualizations of the same kind can accompany each other.
