The various appearances all transform into the essence of one clear and knowing awareness. Therefore, it should not be said that the mind does not have various appearances, but rather that the various appearances are not different from the nature of the one clear and knowing mind. Therefore, it is very appropriate to say that one mind appears as many. Temporarily, it can be applied to things like sense consciousness, but in reality, the appearance of all things, like the body, is considered only mind, and should be understood in that way. Second, establishing faults and refuting uncertainty. First, one mind of various appearances. Just as it is acceptable, if external forms, such as the colors of a patterned cloth, are of the nature of one indivisible whole with parts, then the various apprehended aspects in one consciousness are inseparable, and likewise, they cannot be separated from the one, and must be indivisible. However, when blue obscures other colors, it does not obscure others, and when blue is seen, others are not seen. Thus, in generating self-awareness, the ability is always definite and seen to rely on distinct characteristics, but just as one consciousness grasps many, one object does not produce many, so there is harm. Second, refuting the answer to dispel the harm, assuming that the opponent says that the ability to distinguish is in the parts, not in the whole. If so, then the parts that can be distinguished are different, and when each part is eliminated, there is no difference that cannot be distinguished. The other, called the whole, is not seen, so it is like a flower in the sky. Assuming that the opponent refutes by obstructing the proof, if there is no whole, then the scattered parts are no different from powerless dust particles, so it should not appear as an object of the senses. If so, according to your view, each of the different senses, objects, self, and mind cannot generate sense consciousness individually, but just as you believe that they can generate it when assembled, many dust particles gather and generate a visible difference. Even if many dust particles simultaneously become the cause of sense consciousness, what contradiction is there? There will be no contradiction. If you say that the senses and mind are causes, not apprehended objects, so they are not the same, and that dust particles are causes, but the apprehended object is the whole, so it is different from that, then, for self- awareness, the generator of aspects

There is nothing else called "that which is apprehended" other than the object that is the cause. If it is not the cause of generating consciousness, then it is not the object to be apprehended, because if it becomes an object without any connection, then everything will become the object to be apprehended by everything. If it is said that there are causes that are not objects to be apprehended, such as the sense faculty for sense consciousness, then, for that, the consciousness that has an object, which appears as the aspect of whatever object, that is said to be apprehended by that consciousness, and that is also the cause of the arising of that consciousness, so in that way, there is no contradiction in the fact that many special particles that are the cause of generating sense consciousness are simultaneously the objects to be apprehended by the consciousness. Third, regarding the fault of not apprehending the nostrils etc. simultaneously, there is the actual text and the refutation of it. First, just as you do not apprehend many things simultaneously, so you apprehend your own limbs, nostrils and scrotum, eyes and ears, etc., together with the limbs of the cow simultaneously, because you will never apprehend the possessor of limbs together with aiming at incomplete limbs. If you think so, then without seeing the limbs such as the scrotum, you will never see the knowledge as a cow either. Second, if a substrate has many qualities, one can simultaneously apprehend any one of them and the substrate, because they exist inseparably due to the relationship of fitting together. Therefore, when seeing a horn, one simultaneously recognizes that quality or merit and the main cow, or if one thinks that one simultaneously recognizes the merit of the shape of the cow and the substrate, the main cow, then one does not completely apprehend the horns and hooves etc. at the same time, because they are multiple things, and until that thing is apprehended, one will not apprehend their merit shape either, and without completely apprehending all the shapes of each limb, it is impossible to apprehend the complete shape of the cow, so how can one apprehend the cow together with the merit of the shape? One cannot apprehend it. Or if one thinks that one simultaneously apprehends a certain limb like a horn and the main cow, that is also not possible, even if one can apprehend the horn, how can one simultaneously apprehend the cow together with the horn by means of sense consciousness? Because one does not see the remaining limbs other than the horn, one only sees the horn separately, it is impossible to see the cow. If qualities such as blue and actions such as shaking, and generalities such as cows, all fit together with their own objects, then the objects
