If asked thus, then those things that we consider not made by humans, because they have no difference in shape and characteristics from (man-made objects), if it is said that all these will also become not made by humans, what reason do you use to refute this? If the answer is, these are all seen to be made by humans, so this statement can be excluded. Then, for the shapes of mountains, etc., which have never been seen to be made by humans, what is used to infer them? If it is said that they are also inferred in that way, then it is unreasonable. Because objects such as mountains and ridges are different from man-made objects such as vases, which have traces of being made by humans. If we carefully examine the shapes possessed by mountains and ridges, we will find that they are only the same in the usage of the word "shape," and there is no other reason for difference. It is unreasonable to infer that it is man-made just because the words are the same, because it is impossible to prove that there is a necessary relationship between man-made and merely shape, because even if it is not intentionally made by humans, there is no contradiction in having a shape. Because there is no connection between the "sign" as the reason and the "what is to be proven" that needs to be proven, nothing can be established, just like inferring fire from gray substances such as soil, dust, and steam, without taking the special gray substance of smoke, which is related to fire, as the reason. Therefore, if there is no special reason that would not mistake it for being man-made, then nothing can be established by shape alone. Then, what is it that is said to be able to infer that it is man-made from a special shape? What kind of characteristics of being man-made are there in shape? If it is said that shape alone is named based on the arrangement of matter, so there is a characteristic on it that will not be mistaken, that is definitely not the case. Then what is it? It is the particularity of the arrangement of matter that depends on human creation, those shapes that have dependence are the shapes that have the characteristics of human creation, for example, like fire and smoke, which are related to humans. Like this, depending on human creation is because it is commonly seen in the world, so no further investigation is needed. Whatever does not depend on human creation, but arises from the aggregation of causes and conditions, such as sharp thorns and the shapes of flowers, is unrelated to human creation, just as pillars and vases are unrelated. For these...

If it is thought that the hidden agent, the self-powered one, is not the maker, then these things arise from their own causes and conditions, and the self-powered one has done nothing, which will be refuted below. Secondly, the fault of being too extreme is: unlike what was just said, establishing what is to be established by means of connection, but rather seeing what cause some phenomena have, and then inferring that they are produced by the former cause from the perspective of merely being similar to it, then, since it is established that the potter can make some forms of clay such as pots, therefore, it is also established that all forms of clay are made by him, so it is also established that anthills are made by that potter. If it is thought that the potter made some forms of clay, but it does not necessarily follow that all forms of clay are made by him, then, although some shapes of pots etc. are made by humans, it is not certain that all shapes are made by humans, and even if it does not depend on the special effort of humans, it is established that they arise in that way from their own causes and conditions. Thirdly, like this, distinguishing between shapes made and not made by humans, and refuting by establishing shape as a sign, this is like a refutation called "fruit-identical refutation," if it is said to be the same as what was said by the teacher Dharmakirti, it is not the same. Because sound is impermanent, in order to establish what is to be established, when establishing the fruit, that is, what is produced by causes and conditions, as a sign, it is not necessary to distinguish the difference of what is made, and it can be established in general, because merely being made can establish impermanence, but when establishing impermanence by means of being made in that way, other non-Buddhists think that the connection of the sign being made, the sound and the pot etc. themselves are different, therefore the sign being made also becomes different. If that is the case, the being made of sound is not established on the pot, so there is no subsequent occurrence in the similar example, the being made of the pot is not pervasive on the sound, and the being made that is not both is not certain anywhere, therefore, stating the fault that such is not a true sign is considered to be a fruit-identical refutation or like a refutation, even if one states such non-establishment and lack of subsequent occurrence, one cannot refute the correct reasoning, so it is a refutation.
