If it is assumed that the individual and the general are not different, then the shape of one appearance, etc., will not follow others, so the general cannot confer benefit. This is to answer that even if conceptual thought considers each appearance to be different and clings to it as one, it will not be harmed by reason. Furthermore, what appears before the conceptual mind that grasps the general is not entirely without difference, but there are appearances that appear as different. The reason for this is that those appearances of trees are held to be the same only as trees. If one clings to them as the same, one must cling to them as different, because if they do not arise from a unique form, how can one cling to them as the same? Therefore, it is meaningless to say that since appearances are different, it is unreasonable to generate a non-different consciousness. If those appearances are the same, that is, without difference, and one thinks, "This is the former one," "The former one is this," and clings to them as one, then how can they be grasped as different by the mind? Therefore, the so-called "same" exists in both non-different common things, and therefore one thinks that appearances are different, "Shapa is also a tree, and cedar is also a tree," rather than thinking that they are the same in extremely different and non-different things. For two different appearances, saying "same," the cause of sound and consciousness entering into non-difference is not because it exists in a non-different common entity, but only relies on the similarity of fire and firewood, etc., producing the same result, and mixes similar things together through discrimination, but in reality they are not mixed, and there is no similarity in extremely different and non-different things. Therefore, for similarities, it is only fabricated as "of the same kind," and that term is established. If the result of those different appearances, that is, the self-grasping consciousness, is also different, then it is very much agreed that the substance is different. For example, the function of drawing water from gold vases and copper vases, etc., is also different from the perspective of the substance. The self-grasping consciousness arising from each appearance is also different, not the same. Then, if it is considered unreasonable that multiple appearances produce one consciousness that grasps the general, there is no fault. If non-difference or oneness is established from the perspective of substance or things, then it will become that accusation. But here, it is considered to be a fabrication of conceptual thought, so there is no fault, that is, for similarities, it is only fabricated as "of the same kind."
