So it is. Therefore, with the faculties, that is, a mental consciousness does not arise unless any one of the faculties engages with its object and is not separated from it. If that were the case, then when that faculty does not engage with its object, consciousness would also cease, but that is not the case, and this is manifestly refuted. If you say that the five faculties together produce consciousness, then these faculties must necessarily have different capacities for producing their respective consciousnesses. For example, the eye faculty produces the consciousness that apprehends forms, but does not produce the consciousness that apprehends sounds, and so on, producing different results without depending on each other. Therefore, it is impossible for one consciousness to arise from all the faculties. If that were the case, even if one faculty did not engage with its object, consciousness would cease; and when all the faculties engage, consciousness would arise, and it would also have to be the manifestor of all objects. But that is not the case; it is not clear about all objects, but rather the conceptual consciousness that grasps the general meaning exists independently of any sense consciousness. Therefore, consciousness arises from the continuum of its own similar preceding moment, and is established independently of the faculties. Second, if you say that consciousness arises from a body without faculties, then hair, nails, and so on, which are without faculties, are themselves without mind, so consciousness does not arise from other things without faculties, because consciousness is mind, and they do not have it. If they had mind, then hair, nails, and so on, should also be able to perceive objects, but that is impossible, and there is no proof. If you admit that it exists even without proof, then the materialists should also admit that in their own bellies there are also beings who have transmigrated from the lower realms and the next world, and arhats. Second, in refuting the debate: refuting the impossibility of coexisting, refuting the unreasonableness of dependent transformation. First, then there is also no certainty that body and mind coexist, because they are not the proximate cause and the object of the proximate cause, like a pot and a cloth, and a bird dwelling in a tree, they sometimes gather together, but there is no certainty that they will always remain inseparable. If you say that you have not seen consciousness not abiding in the body, then they coexist because they are the proximate cause and the object of the proximate cause, and it is not so. Because they are thrown by the same karma that throws them into existence, they will coexist until the throwing of karma is exhausted. For example, like the five faculties of one person, and the shape and taste of brown sugar together.

just as one exists. These examples cannot be considered the immediate cause of each other, and the Outsiders (Vaishnavas) do not consider them to be the immediate cause of each other either. Secondly, if the two, body and mind, do not depend on each other in the manner of cause and effect, then when the body changes due to poison etc., the mind should not change accordingly, but because the mind is seen to change accordingly, it is established as cause and effect, is it so? That is not because the mind changes as a result of the body changing, but because the body is taken as the object of the mind, the mind changes. For example, fainting from seeing a child's corpse and someone else's blood, etc. A child's corpse and someone else's blood, etc., should not be the immediate cause of the mind of the subject. Similarly, if one grasps one's own body as belonging to oneself, and takes the changes such as illness that occur in it as the object, but not as the object of the mind's change, then the mind will not change, just as one's own mind does not change when someone else's body is sick. Secondly, what is meant by following? Establishing one's own system, whatever result always follows that cause, or depends on it, so that it will not arise without it, is certain. Whatever cause benefits any result, and is able to produce it, that is called its follower or cause. Therefore, if this exists, then this arises, this is the seventh reason; or, this depends on this, this is the seventh reason; or, adding the fifth reason, because this arises from this, therefore it is the cause, this is what the Sutra says. Secondly, non-separation. General and particular, refuting the permanent body. First, the vow of non-separation. To extensively argue its reason. First, sometimes, in the state of being born in the desired form, for the continuum of the mind, as mentioned above, although the body also gives help, that is false. However, just as pottery etc. is fired by fire, although the fire gives help, the pottery does not disappear when the fire goes out, just because it gives help, it does not mean that when the giver of help disappears, the continuum of the one being helped also disappears. Secondly, refuting the statement of fault and the removal of blame. First, it is unreasonable to say that the mind disappears when the cause, the body, disappears, because the cause, the body
