Due to having this power, at the path stage, one supremely desires the Dharma of the path and the fruit; at the fruit stage, one views with the manner of not turning away from all Dharmas but accepting them, accomplishing the self-nature of discriminating wisdom (Tibetan: སོར་རྟོག་ཡེ་ཤེས།) – Amitabha (Tibetan: སྣང་བ་མཐའ་ཡས།). Hatred is the aspect of abandoning unfavorable objects, and because such power exists in the mind, at the path stage, it prevents aspects unfavorable to the path from remaining in one's own continuum; at the fruit stage, it eliminates the defilement of delusion regarding the nature of suchness, becoming the self-nature of mirror-like wisdom (Tibetan: མེ་ལོང་ཡེ་ཤེས།), destroying all demons and obstacles, accomplishing Vajra Akshobhya (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་མི་བསྐྱོད།). Ignorance is the aspect of turning away from the nature of objects, remaining in a state of equanimity without focusing on that object, and because such power exists in the mind, at the path stage, one does not grasp at signs, and at the fruit stage, one does not conceptualize all realms of proliferation, accomplishing the self-nature of the wisdom of Dharmadhatu (Tibetan: ཆོས་དབྱིངས་ཡེ་ཤེས།) – Vairochana (Tibetan: རྣམ་པར་སྣང་མཛད།). Pride is the aspect of engaging in elevation, and because such power exists in the mind, at the path stage, one engages in all practices without discouragement and holds the mantra path as supreme; at the fruit stage, due to being enriched by all qualities, there is no aspect of poverty or discouragement, and there is no sting of inequality in everything, accomplishing the essence of equality wisdom (Tibetan: མཉམ་ཉིད་ཡེ་ཤེས།) – Ratnasambhava (Tibetan: རིན་ཆེན་འབྱུང་ལྡན།). Jealousy is a mind that engages in inequality and is unbearable, focusing on self and others, and because such power exists in the mind, at the path stage, one engages in accepting and rejecting what should be practiced and what should not be practiced; at the fruit stage, one accomplishes the activity of benefiting those to be tamed and abandoning harm, accomplishing the self-nature of accomplished wisdom (Tibetan: བྱ་གྲུབ་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས།) – Amoghasiddhi (Tibetan: དོན་ཡོད་གྲུབ་པ།). Therefore, just as the potency of medicine and the light of a jewel, these five self-powers have always existed in the mind, and in the state of non-realization, all the actions of samsara are done by these five self-powers; however, in the state of realization, they do all the actions of pure nirvana. If one is separated from these five powers, just like an arrow shot that has exhausted its power, or like the mover of a machine being separated, one cannot accomplish things completely, just like a Shravaka entering into peace. Therefore, it is impossible for the self-power of the mind to be permanently prevented from arising.

Furthermore, even without preventing it, if it is not tainted by delusion, it will manifest as the five wisdoms. This principle is also stated in the Sutra of Vimalakirti: The lotus does not grow from dry land or empty shells, but from water and mud. Similarly, unsurpassed perfect enlightenment does not arise in those who have abandoned afflictions and see the unconditioned, but if one cultivates the view of self like Mount Sumeru, one will generate the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Therefore, afflictions are the seed of the Tathāgata. It is like this saying. Second, as it is said: The world is subdued by non-attachment, and the accomplishment of mudras arises from attachment. Although it is taught that because attachment is the greatest fault in the world, it is subdued by non-attachment, there are also times when attachment cannot be avoided. According to the external mantra practitioners, if one does not become attached to the mudras said to be the deities contemplated by those with vows, one will not attain accomplishment. According to the internal mantra practitioners, if one does not become extremely attached to the mudras of mantras, one will not attain wisdom and accomplishment. Therefore, as it is said, the accomplishment of these mudras cannot be achieved without attachment. Just like this, the more attachment there is in the desire realm and the senses that are possessed, the more happiness increases. The more happiness is grasped by skillful means, the greater the manifestation of wisdom, just as firewood increases fire or poison enhances the brilliance of a peacock's feathers. Similarly, other afflictions also depend on whether they are grasped by skillful means or not, and they exist as causes of merit and demerit, but there is no difference in the nature of the causes. Just like this, although it is taught that one should not generate desire for contaminated objects or longing for pure Dharma, it is only because of the differences in objects and forms that these actions become distinct. The way the mind's power moves towards objects is the same. As it is said in the sutra, in the Questions of Sagaramati: Just as fire finds grass, so its power increases. Just as a Bodhisattva encounters afflictions and existence, so the fire of wisdom greatly increases. It is said like this. Third, just like this, for all appearances in an ordinary way.
