In general, there are two ways to accomplish [this]. First, regarding the view that accepts all these appearances as existing as external entities according to how they appear, in order to prove the appearances as deities, although there are many rational approaches, if only the essential points are shown: Here, for the same water, hungry ghosts see pus and blood, humans see water, beings abiding in pure lands see a stream of nectar, and noble vidyādharas with pure vision see the form of Māmakī (藏文:མཱ་མ་ཀཱི།). Touching it has a moistening effect, and it also generates the bliss of enjoyment and non-conceptual samādhi. Buddhas who have completely exhausted their habitual tendencies, in their suchness-seeing, all appearances are free from and all elaborations are pacified, and in their as-it-is-seeing, the immeasurable realm of self-appearing wisdom, which is extremely pure, appears as the nature [of reality]. So, among these visions, which is valid cognition, and which object is established as the state of conventional reality? The purer the subject, the more valid the cognition, and thus it is established that what is seen is the state of reality, just like the mind and object of perceiving a yellow conch and perceiving a white conch. Therefore, all these appearances are, in their true nature, established as the maṇḍala of body and wisdom, because they are seen purely by the noble ones who are free from the defilement of inversion, just as someone without eye defects sees a white conch. The sign is established by scripture and reasoning. First, as it is well known from the general scriptures that those who have attained the wisdom of transformation and abide in pure lands see the fields and so on as pure. If one thinks that what the noble ones see is self-appearance, and that these objects seen by ordinary people are not seen as pure, then if that were the case, it would follow that there would be no common object of seeing due to the purity and impurity of the continuum. But that is not the case, as when Śāriputra saw this Buddha-field as impure, and Brahmājāla saw it as pure and argued, the Buddha made all beings see the field as pure, and then said, "My field is always pure like this, but you have not seen it." It should be understood as such. If one does not measure by seeing the nature of an object as it is, and by seeing it in an inverted way, then whatever each person sees becomes valid cognition, and therefore one cannot establish the difference between truth and falsehood in the appearance of a yellow conch and the appearance of a white conch.
