If asked what is extreme love, when the Brahmin was dying, he said to his son Nida, "After I die, if you need anything, you can ask your younger brother Chu Sangpa for help." After saying that, he passed away. Once, Nida was eating with Chu Sangpa, and his mother contemptuously said, "This is the son of a maidservant." Chu Sangpa asked his mother, and his mother replied, "People in the world are all governed by karma, who is whose servant? Child, go to another country and learn knowledge." So he went to another country and changed his name to Moon Serene. In Shravasti, he visited a Brahmin teacher. The teacher asked him where he came from and other questions, and also asked about the Brahmin Moon Fame. The child cried and said, "That was my father, he has passed away." The teacher said, "That was my childhood friend, I will arrange the marriage." So the teacher taught him the Vedas, and he became proficient in the four Vedas. The teacher gave him his ornately decorated daughter and a lot of wealth. He became famous and wealthy. A stonemason merchant came to Shravasti and went to visit him, recognized him, but said nothing. After the merchant returned, he told Nida about it. Nida happily told his mother, but his mother said, "The son of a maidservant, how can he become a respected person?" Soon, Nida's wealth decreased day by day, and his mother said, "Go to your younger brother and divide some property." The son said, "Before he was the son of a maidservant, how can he become a younger brother now?" The mother said, "Even so, you should go and don't refuse to accept." The mother repeatedly persuaded him, so he went to Shravasti. When Moon Serene heard about it, he welcomed him and offered him food, saying, "My name is Moon Serene, please don't call me Chu Sangpa." Nida also did the same. After returning home, he said to his Brahmin wife, "This is my brother Nida, you must provide everything he needs, be respectful in your words, and do not disobey." The wife also did the same. Nida got along well with people, while Chu Sangpa was rude and fierce, and if he was slightly dissatisfied, he would punch and kick his wife. The Brahmin wife said to Nida, "Venerable one, you two brothers drank from the same breast..."

Venerable one! For what reason do you feel at ease when accompanying her? The elder brother is fierce, harsh, and wrathful—what cause lies behind this? The uncle said: “This is the household knowledge, which I have bestowed.” The lady said: “Grant me the household knowledge.” The Sun and Moon replied: “Knowledge is not to be given to anyone. Knowledge is to be carried until death. Knowledge, together with reverence and wealth, is what should be given.” The Brahmin woman said: “Then bestow upon me some wealth.” The uncle gave her five hundred karshapanas (an ancient Indian currency). With these five hundred karshapanas in her hands, she bowed at his feet and said: “Venerable one, please show me the household knowledge.” The Sun and Moon replied: “Uncle, when the time is fulfilled, when life is about to end, then it can be given.” So the Brahmin woman went before the householder’s wife, saying: “Son of the Lord, your elder brother dislikes household duties, therefore please return.” She answered: “Good woman, if it is thus, then you must make a vow upon the path. I will seek an accord that leads toward the stone refuge.” So she made a vow upon the road, carrying five hundred karshapanas, and said: “Now is the time you cast away the Sun and Moon; please grant me the household knowledge.” The Sun and Moon replied: “Uncle, when the quiet moon strikes against you, then this knowledge should be transmitted.” Many people and others of the household already knew of it; the guardians too were aware. Yet in a hidden chamber, one thing was kept secret. If anyone asks the meaning of this speech, know that when struck with questioning, its meaning can also be spoken. Uncle, if this esoteric mantra, merely by being uttered, already contains its fruit, then there will be no future regret. You must hold it well.” The Brahmin woman then held it well. The tranquil moon also divided the Sun and Moon with five hundred karshapanas, bestowed the vow upon the road, and sent him off. The girl thought: “This esoteric mantra—are its words true or false?” When the tranquil moon had sent off the Sun and Moon and returned, she neither ate nor bathed nor put on the vow-garment. When he said, “Bring water and food,” she answered, “I did not put on the vow-garment.” Thus he grew angry and said: “When I bring this boy in, you oppose me—you must not disobey!” He struck her. The junior wife said: “Son of the Lord…”
