Pages 701 to 800 Pages 701 to 800 Also offered food in hundreds of thousands. Thus, this Bhagavan, when he was once transformed into King Mirror Face, greatly benefited sentient beings with wisdom and generosity. Furthermore, in the past, in a city called Body Excellent, there was a king named Increase who ruled the kingdom, and the land was prosperous and happy. The king's consort, Beautiful Woman, became pregnant, and at that time, food and drink were abundant. Later, a son was born and named Food and Drink. He mastered letters and crafts, and was brave, fearless, and of a violent nature. His mother, the consort, became arrogant because of her son, and did not listen to the king's orders, often disobeying, which displeased the king. Therefore, the ministers requested, "Please take another consort." After marrying the daughter of King Sunlight, King Sunlight said, "If my grandson is made crown prince, then I will agree." The ministers agreed. That woman also pleased the king, and requested, "If I have a son, please make him crown prince." King Increase thought to himself, "How can I give the throne to another when my beloved son, my only son Food and Drink, is handsome, and worthy of wealth?" He hesitated. The ministers said to King Sunlight, "We have already agreed, and we do not know if she will have children, so it is better to give her." After saying this, the king also made a decision. Thereafter, the daughter of King Sunlight became pregnant and gave birth to a handsome son, who was named Joyful for the Kingdom. After that, King Sunlight also sent a messenger, saying, "If you do not make my grandson crown prince, I will gather an army and invade your land." Fearing this, the ministers requested the king, "Give the crown prince position to the young son and kill the young Food and Drink." The king said, "Do not speak such words that are not in accordance with the Dharma. Thus, I have only heard of sons killing fathers, not fathers killing sons, so I will never do that."

They said: “Speak no more.” The king said: “If it will not die, then strip it of its branches.” The ministers replied: “O King, if stripped of branches, it will wither and perish.” Then they said: “What else can be done? It should be expelled.” The king said: “How can one without fault be expelled?” They answered: “If left unchecked for long, harm will arise. Let Your Majesty grant him honor and favor for a time, and then he will become reckless; later, in indulgence of food and drink, he will bring about his own downfall.” Thus the king appointed the nephew of the Sun King beneath the Sun as regent. The youth, upon hearing this, thought: “Though I dwell here, I shall soon be slain.” He told his mother: “If I go to the Five-Colored Realm, please know it.” His mother, free from suffering, tied him by the neck and said: “You once enjoyed ease and wealth; now you must wander again through empty lands and forests, reciting many verses.” Then the youth recited: “In eating and drinking, who is forever happy? Who forever suffers? Who is never without pain? Who never attains?” Thus his mother instructed him with many teachings and sent him to the Five-Colored Realm. There, the king’s attendant saw him and thought: “Who is this youth of fine appearance, strong body, and great voice?” The youth explained everything. He was then brought before the Five-Colored King and told the whole story. The king rejoiced, tied him by the neck in welcome, spoke many pleasant words, and granted him both his daughter and lands. That princess bore him a son, handsome and lion-like in voice and strength. The father named him after himself as ‘Much Drinking.’ When the child grew up, he studied writing, and by then his father had passed away. The king’s daughter grieved deeply. The Five-Colored King thought: “These women are mostly filled with desires.”
